Porsche 991.1 / 991.2 Turbo / Turbo S SOUL Competition X-Pipe Exhaust System
Product Description
The SOUL Competition X-Pipe Exhaust System is a complete catless performance exhaust system for the Porsche 991.1 and 991.2 911 Turbo / Turbo S, engineered for maximum exhaust flow, substantial weight reduction, increased turbocharger sound, and a dramatically more aggressive flat-six exhaust note.
SOUL developed the Competition system around full 3-inch T304L stainless-steel piping, a proprietary X-pipe mixing chamber, and four straight-through race resonators. The X-pipe blends the opposing exhaust streams to improve flow characteristics and produce a smoother, more refined exhaust note, while the quad resonators reduce undesirable drone without introducing the restriction of conventional mufflers.
The Competition configuration removes the factory catalytic converters, substantially reducing post-turbo exhaust restriction and allowing significantly more turbocharger and engine sound to reach the driver.
At approximately 26 lbs, the SOUL Competition X-Pipe weighs approximately 19 lbs / 8.6 kg less than the roughly 45-lb factory exhaust components it replaces.
Owners may reuse the factory exhaust tips on most Turbo and Turbo S applications or select SOUL's Signature Satin Straight Cut or Signature Satin GT2 Style T316L stainless-steel tips.

COMPLETE CATLESS COMPETITION EXHAUST
The Competition X-Pipe is considerably more aggressive than a conventional rear muffler replacement.
This system removes the factory catalytic converters as part of the complete exhaust configuration.
Eliminating the catalysts reduces one of the largest restrictions immediately downstream of the turbochargers and provides:
Reduced post-turbine backpressure
Greater exhaust-flow capacity
Increased turbocharger sound
Greater engine character
Increased tuning potential
Reduced exhaust-system weight
Significantly increased overall volume
This is SOUL's competition-oriented configuration for owners prioritizing flow, sound, and performance rather than emissions equipment retention.
FULL 3-INCH EXHAUST ARCHITECTURE
Supporting increased power was a major consideration during SOUL's development process.
The system therefore uses:
3-inch-diameter exhaust tubing
through the performance exhaust architecture.
This large flow path helps accommodate the exhaust mass flow associated with:
Factory turbochargers
ECU tuning
Increased boost
Intake upgrades
Intercooler upgrades
Turbocharger upgrades
Higher-output engine combinations
The 3-inch architecture makes the system particularly appropriate for vehicles expected to progress beyond stock output.
PROPRIETARY X-PIPE DESIGN
SOUL experimented with a mixing chamber during development of the 991 Turbo exhaust.
Using 3D CAD analysis across a range of pressure and temperature conditions, SOUL observed a general increase in exhaust velocity downstream of its mixing chamber.
The resulting proprietary X-pipe is designed to provide:
Improved exhaust-stream blending
Reduced backpressure
Improved exhaust velocity
Greater high-horsepower flow capacity
Smoother exhaust character
Improved sound quality
Rather than keeping the left and right banks completely isolated, the X-pipe allows the two exhaust streams to interact before exiting the vehicle.
QUAD RACE RESONATORS
A completely catless 3-inch Turbo exhaust can easily become excessively harsh or develop objectionable cabin resonance.
SOUL therefore incorporates:
Four straight-through race resonators
into the Competition X-Pipe.
The resonators use a full-metal packing design selected for durability under sustained high exhaust temperatures.
Their purpose is to reduce undesirable frequencies without significantly restricting the primary exhaust path.
This helps provide:
Reduced drone
Smoother overall sound
More refined exhaust character
Straight-through exhaust flow
High-temperature durability
The Competition system remains a very aggressive exhaust, but the resonators prevent it from simply becoming an uncontrolled straight-pipe configuration.
NON-VALVED PERFORMANCE DESIGN
The Competition X-Pipe is a non-valved exhaust system.
It does not provide a dedicated valves-closed quiet route like SOUL's Valved Exhaust System.
The freer-flowing Competition exhaust path is therefore active continuously.
Vehicle drive modes can still affect engine behavior, throttle calibration, transmission behavior, and factory-generated burbles, but they do not convert this exhaust into a separate quiet flow path.
Customers wanting active exhaust-volume control should consider SOUL's Valved Exhaust System instead.
SOUND CHARACTER
SOUL developed the Competition X-Pipe to deliver significantly more of the 991 Turbo's engine and turbocharger character.
Expect:
Dramatically increased exhaust volume
Significantly more turbo spool
More audible turbine sound
Greater flat-six presence
Stronger full-throttle character
Increased acceleration sound
More aggressive high-RPM exhaust note
Pronounced crackles during throttle lift
Increased burbles during deceleration
More exhaust presence inside the cabin
Despite the increased volume, SOUL specifically engineered the quad race resonators to keep the tone refined rather than excessively harsh.
COMFORT MODE BEHAVIOR
SOUL notes that the vehicle's Comfort-oriented calibration reduces the amount of burbling and crackling compared with more aggressive driving modes.
This provides some variation in character through the vehicle's engine and transmission programming even though the Competition X-Pipe itself is not valved.
The exhaust will remain considerably more audible than stock in all modes.
TURBOCHARGER SOUND
Removing the factory catalytic converters makes a substantial difference in audible turbocharger activity.
The catalyst substrates normally suppress much of the:
Turbo spool
Turbine whistle
Mechanical turbocharger character
before those sounds reach the rear of the vehicle.
The Competition X-Pipe removes that attenuation, allowing substantially more turbocharger sound to reach the cabin and surrounding environment.
POST-TURBO BACKPRESSURE REDUCTION
Reducing restriction after a turbocharger can improve the environment into which the turbine discharges.
The Competition system removes the factory catalyst substrates and replaces the restrictive factory exhaust architecture with large 3-inch piping.
This provides additional exhaust-flow capacity for both stock and modified cars.
The benefit becomes increasingly important as:
Boost pressure increases
Airflow increases
Engine output increases
Turbochargers are upgraded
DYNO-TESTED HIGH-POWER CAPABILITY
SOUL performed third-party Mustang Dyno testing at R/T Tuning with the Competition X-Pipe already installed.
The vehicle produced:
542 whp / 629 lb-ft
with the SOUL Competition X-Pipe and baseline calibration.
Adding a:
COBB Accessport base map
increased output to approximately:
581 whp / 733 lb-ft
A subsequent:
Custom Protune
produced approximately:
606 whp / 749 lb-ft
These results demonstrate the Competition X-Pipe's ability to support substantial power and torque as ECU calibration becomes more aggressive.
IMPORTANT DYNO CONTEXT
The published dyno session is not an exhaust-only before-and-after test.
The SOUL Competition X-Pipe was already installed for the 542 whp / 629 lb-ft baseline pull.
The progression was:
SOUL Competition X-Pipe + baseline calibration:
542 whp / 629 lb-ft
SOUL Competition X-Pipe + COBB base map:
581 whp / 733 lb-ft
SOUL Competition X-Pipe + custom Protune:
606 whp / 749 lb-ft
The data therefore demonstrates that the exhaust can support a high-output tuned configuration, but it does not establish a standalone horsepower or torque gain from the exhaust itself.
DasMotoring does not advertise a numerical Competition X-Pipe-only horsepower gain.
ECU TUNING
An ECU tune is not required for the exhaust system to physically bolt onto the vehicle.
However, because the Competition system removes the factory catalytic converters, catalyst-monitoring faults are likely.
An appropriate closed-course ECU calibration can:
Address catalyst-related diagnostic faults
Take greater advantage of reduced exhaust restriction
Optimize higher boost targets
Support additional airflow modifications
Improve overall tuned performance
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT
Because the Competition X-Pipe removes the catalytic converters, SOUL states that a check engine light is likely on a vehicle retaining normal catalyst monitoring.
This distinguishes the Competition system from SOUL's catted Sport X-Pipe Exhaust System.
Customers using the Competition exhaust on a closed-course vehicle should plan accordingly when determining the vehicle's calibration.
19-LB WEIGHT REDUCTION
SOUL publishes the following weights:
Factory Exhaust Components:
Approximately 45 lbs / 20.4 kg
SOUL Competition X-Pipe Exhaust:
Approximately 26 lbs / 11.8 kg
Weight Savings:
Approximately 19 lbs / 8.6 kg
That represents approximately a:
42% reduction
in the mass of the components being replaced.
Because the majority of this exhaust hardware sits behind the rear axle, the reduction is particularly useful on a rear-engined 911.
T304L STAINLESS EXHAUST CONSTRUCTION
The main exhaust assembly is manufactured from:
Mandrel-bent T304L stainless steel
with:
3-inch diameter tubing
and:
.065-inch wall thickness
This construction provides:
High-temperature durability
Corrosion resistance
Structural strength
Consistent exhaust geometry
Long service life
Suitability for repeated track use
T316L STAINLESS-STEEL EXHAUST TIPS
SOUL's current optional exhaust tips are manufactured from T316L stainless steel.
T316L provides excellent corrosion resistance and is well suited to visible exhaust components exposed to:
Heat
Condensation
Road debris
Moisture
Environmental contamination
Customers may alternatively retain the factory exhaust tips where compatible.
