Upgrade your manual Porsche 991.1 Carrera with a complete AASCO lightweight steel flywheel and Sachs Performance clutch package designed to reduce rotating mass, improve engine response, and refresh the clutch system at the same time. This kit pairs an approximately 18 lb AASCO lightweight steel flywheel with compatible Sachs Performance clutch components for select Porsche 991.1 Carrera-family manual applications.
Compared to the approximately 29 lb factory flywheel, this AASCO lightweight steel flywheel removes about 11 lb of rotating mass from the engine. The result is a sharper, more responsive engine that revs more freely, responds more directly, and feels more alive during downshifts, heel-toe shifting, and spirited driving.
At DasMotoring, this is one of our favorite upgrades for a manual Porsche. A lightweight flywheel can completely change the character of the car — making it feel sharper, more mechanical, and more connected. If your 991.1 Carrera has started to feel a little too slow or soulless, this is one of those upgrades that can reignite your love for the car and give it some of that 911 S/T-inspired character and flair.
We have run AASCO lightweight flywheels on our own manual Porsches for years through daily driving, traffic, backroad driving, and track use with excellent results.
This complete kit is a great choice for drivers looking for a more responsive, motorsport-inspired feel from their manual 991.1 while also replacing the clutch, pressure plate, release bearing, and related hardware with a matched Sachs Performance clutch package. The AASCO flywheel is a lightweight steel design, which can be a nice balance for street-driven cars that want sharper response without going to the lightest possible flywheel setup.

Driving Feel
A lightweight flywheel reduces rotating mass at the engine, allowing the engine to gain and lose RPM more quickly. The result is a sharper, more immediate connection between your right foot, the engine, and the gearbox. Rev-matched downshifts feel cleaner, throttle blips feel more natural, and the car takes on a more responsive, motorsport-style personality.
Because the flywheel is lighter than the factory dual-mass flywheel setup, some additional drivetrain noise, gear rollover sound, or chatter may be present. This is normal for many lightweight flywheel conversions and is part of the more mechanical driving experience.
The best way to minimize NVH and gearbox chatter is to avoid lugging the engine. Drivers should never lug the engine to begin with, and this is especially important with a lightweight flywheel. Keeping the engine above approximately 2,000 rpm, or selecting a lower gear when climbing hills or accelerating from low speed, will help keep the drivetrain happier and reduce unwanted chatter. The higher the rpm, the less drivetrain chatter and NVH you will have.

Upgrade your manual Porsche 991.2 Carrera or 991.2 GT3 with a complete AASCO lightweight steel flywheel and Tilton ST-215 twin plate clutch package designed to reduce rotating mass, increase clutch holding capacity, and dramatically improve engine response. This package pairs the AASCO 106443-12 lightweight steel flywheel with a Tilton ST-215 2-plate sprung organic clutch package rated for approximately 600 lb-ft of torque.
Compared to the factory flywheel and clutch setup, this AASCO / Tilton package gives the car a sharper, more motorsport-inspired feel while still using a sprung organic clutch configuration. The result is a more responsive engine that revs more freely, responds more directly, and feels more alive during downshifts, heel-toe shifting, and spirited driving.

Which Version Should I Buy?
AASCO offers several lightweight flywheel and clutch options across the Porsche 911 platform. The correct choice depends on your chassis, engine, transmission, clutch setup, and power level.
This listing is for the AASCO 406453-12-TIL-PKG complete package. It is the right choice if you want the AASCO 106443-12 lightweight steel flywheel and Tilton ST-215 twin plate sprung organic clutch package together as a matched setup for your compatible 991.2 manual 911.
How This Differs From 106443-12
The 106443-12 listing is the flywheel-only option for select Porsche 991.2 / 992 manual applications using the OE twin plate clutch setup.
The 406453-12-TIL-PKG listing is the complete Tilton twin plate clutch package. It includes the AASCO 106443-12 lightweight steel flywheel along with the Tilton ST-215 2-plate sprung organic clutch package.
Choose 106443-12 if your car already has a compatible OE twin plate clutch setup in good condition and you only need the flywheel.
Choose 406453-12-TIL-PKG if your clutch is worn, your pressure plate is worn or unknown, you need additional torque capacity, or you want the flywheel and Tilton twin plate clutch components matched together from the start.
OE Twin Plate vs. Tilton ST-215 Package
The 106443-12 flywheel-only listing is designed around the OE twin plate clutch setup.
This 406453-12-TIL-PKG package is a more complete clutch and flywheel solution using the Tilton ST-215 twin plate sprung organic clutch package. It is a better fit for customers who want a higher-capacity clutch package rather than simply replacing the flywheel while retaining the factory clutch configuration.
991.2 Carrera vs. 991.2 GT3 Applications
The Porsche 991.2 Carrera-family cars use the 3.0L twin-turbo flat-six engine, while the 991.2 GT3 uses the naturally aspirated 4.0L engine. This product page includes both application families because this AASCO / Tilton package is associated with the 991.2 GT3 and select 3.0L twin-turbo Carrera-family applications where confirmed.
Good Candidates for This Complete Package
This complete package is generally intended for:
Select Porsche 991.2 Carrera 3.0L twin-turbo manual applications where confirmed
Select Porsche 991.2 Carrera 4 3.0L twin-turbo manual applications where confirmed
Select Porsche 991.2 Carrera S 3.0L twin-turbo manual applications where confirmed
Select Porsche 991.2 Carrera 4S 3.0L twin-turbo manual applications where confirmed
Select Porsche 991.2 Carrera T 3.0L twin-turbo manual applications where confirmed
Select Porsche 991.2 Carrera GTS / Carrera 4 GTS / Targa 4 GTS 3.0L twin-turbo manual applications where confirmed
Select Porsche 991.2 GT3 / GT3 Touring 4.0L manual applications listed by AASCO
Cars with a worn clutch, worn pressure plate, or unknown clutch service history
Cars needing additional clutch holding capacity
Cars converting from the factory clutch setup to a complete AASCO lightweight steel flywheel and Tilton ST-215 twin plate clutch package
Drivers who want everything matched together as a complete AASCO / Tilton package
If you already have a compatible OE twin plate clutch setup in good condition and only need the flywheel, choose the 106443-12 flywheel-only listing instead.
If you are unsure which version you need, contact us with your year, model, engine, transmission, power level, and current clutch setup so we can help point you toward the correct AASCO option.
Installation Notes
This package uses a Tilton ST-215 twin plate clutch setup. Professional installation is strongly recommended.
A clutch pedal stop is required for this Tilton ST-215 clutch package. Failure to install and properly adjust the required clutch pedal stop may result in clutch failure and may not be covered under warranty.
Before installation, confirm all supplied flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, release bearing, hardware, and related components match the vehicle and intended clutch configuration.
Professional installation is recommended. However, there are DIY how-to guides linked below if you have the tools and equipment at home.
Important Notes
This listing is for the complete AASCO lightweight steel flywheel and Tilton ST-215 twin plate clutch package listed under part number 406453-12-TIL-PKG.
In this listing, “3.0L twin-turbo” refers to the 991.2 Carrera-family engine, not the 911 Turbo or Turbo S models.
Fitment may depend on the vehicle’s model year, engine, transmission, clutch configuration, and power level. Always confirm compatibility with your exact vehicle before ordering.
Before installation, compare the new flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, release bearing, hardware, and related components to the original components being replaced.

Which Version Should I Buy?
AASCO offers several lightweight flywheel and clutch options across the Porsche 911 platform. The correct choice depends on your chassis, engine, transmission, and clutch package.
This listing is for the AASCO 106443-12 flywheel only. It is the right choice if your compatible Porsche 991.2 manual application uses the OE twin plate clutch setup and you only need the lightweight steel flywheel.
OE Twin Plate Clutch Compatibility

Do not assume this flywheel is correct for every 991.2 model. Fitment depends on the exact model, engine, transmission, and clutch configuration.
Flywheel-Only vs. Complete Package
Choose this 106443-12 flywheel-only listing if your car already has a compatible OE twin plate clutch setup in good condition, or if you are replacing an existing AASCO 106443-12 flywheel and reusing compatible clutch components.
If your clutch is worn, your pressure plate is worn or unknown, or you want a complete flywheel and clutch package, the associated complete package is 406453-12-TIL-PKG.
The 406453-12-TIL-PKG package should be used only where the complete Tilton twin plate clutch package is confirmed to be compatible with the exact vehicle. If you are unsure, contact us before ordering so we can help verify the correct AASCO option for your car.
