Porsche 991.1 / 991.2 Turbo / Turbo S SOUL Sport X-Pipe Exhaust System
Product Description
The SOUL Sport X-Pipe Exhaust System is a complete catted performance exhaust system for the Porsche 991.1 and 991.2 911 Turbo / Turbo S, engineered to increase exhaust flow, turbocharger sound, flat-six character, and performance potential while retaining high-flow catalytic converters and refined street manners.
SOUL combines large-diameter 3-inch T304L stainless-steel tubing, upgraded high-flow catalytic converters, a proprietary X-pipe mixing chamber, and four straight-through race resonators into a complete turbo-back exhaust solution.
The upgraded catalysts reduce post-turbo restriction while allowing substantially more turbocharger and engine sound to pass through the exhaust. Farther downstream, SOUL's X-pipe blends the exhaust streams from both cylinder banks, while quad race resonators target undesirable frequencies and help maintain comfortable cruising behavior.
Compared with the roughly 45-lb factory exhaust components, the SOUL Sport X-Pipe weighs approximately 30.6 lbs, reducing rear exhaust-system mass by approximately 14.4 lbs / 6.5 kg.
For customers wanting improved flow and sound while retaining catalytic converters, the Sport X-Pipe provides a more street-oriented alternative to SOUL's catless Competition X-Pipe.

COMPLETE CATTED PERFORMANCE EXHAUST
Unlike SOUL's standalone rear X-Pipe Exhaust, the Sport X-Pipe is a complete system that also replaces the factory catalytic-converter sections.
Unlike the Competition X-Pipe, however, it retains catalytic converters.
This gives the Sport system a useful middle ground between the factory exhaust and a fully catless competition configuration.
The package addresses:
Factory catalyst restriction
Rear exhaust restriction
Exhaust-stream separation
Turbocharger sound attenuation
Excess rear exhaust-system weight
Unwanted exhaust resonance
while still maintaining catalytic converters.
HIGH-FLOW CATALYTIC CONVERTERS
The factory catalytic converters sit directly downstream of the turbochargers and create a meaningful restriction in the exhaust system.
SOUL replaces these sections with large, high-flow catalyst assemblies intended to increase available exhaust flow while maintaining catalyst functionality.
Benefits include:
Reduced post-turbo restriction
Increased exhaust-flow capacity
Increased turbocharger sound
Stronger exhaust character
Increased performance potential
Retained catalytic converters
Reduced diagnostic concerns compared with catless exhaust systems
SOUL specifically developed this system around providing additional performance without catalyst-related check engine lights under normal conditions.
NO PUBLISHED CURRENT CATALYST CELL COUNT
SOUL's current product information describes the system as using upgraded, high-flow catalytic converters but does not currently publish a catalyst cell count or identify a specific catalyst supplier.
DasMotoring therefore does not advertise a catalyst cell count for current-production systems.
FULL 3-INCH EXHAUST ARCHITECTURE
SOUL selected:
3-inch-diameter tubing
because supporting increased power was a major goal of the system.
The larger exhaust path provides additional capacity for:
Factory turbochargers
ECU tuning
Increased boost pressure
Intake upgrades
Intercooler upgrades
Turbocharger upgrades
Higher-output engine builds
This makes the Sport X-Pipe appropriate not only for otherwise-stock vehicles but also for cars expected to receive additional performance modifications.
PROPRIETARY X-PIPE MIXING CHAMBER
SOUL developed a purpose-built mixing chamber within the X-pipe rather than simply keeping the two exhaust banks separated.
During development, SOUL used 3D CAD analysis across a range of pressure and temperature conditions and observed a general increase in exhaust velocity downstream of the mixing chamber.
The resulting architecture is intended to improve:
Exhaust-stream blending
Exhaust velocity
Flow characteristics
Backpressure reduction
High-power exhaust capacity
Sound quality
The X-pipe also gives the Turbo a more cohesive flat-six exhaust tone than a completely isolated dual-exhaust arrangement.
QUAD STRAIGHT-THROUGH RACE RESONATORS
Increasing exhaust flow and removing factory muffling can easily introduce undesirable cabin resonance.
SOUL therefore incorporates:
Four straight-through race resonators
into the Sport X-Pipe system.
The resonators use a full-metal packing design intended to withstand sustained high exhaust temperatures.
They help:
Reduce cabin drone
Smooth undesirable frequencies
Refine exhaust tone
Preserve comfortable cruising behavior
without forcing the main exhaust stream through highly restrictive conventional mufflers.
SOPHISTICATED STREET SOUND
SOUL designed the Sport X-Pipe to provide a more mature increase in sound than its catless Competition X-Pipe.
During normal cruising, expect:
Mild but clearly increased exhaust presence
More audible turbocharger activity
Refined flat-six tone
Minimal undesirable drone
Comfortable long-distance operation
Under heavier throttle, the character becomes substantially more aggressive.
Expect:
Greater exhaust volume
Strong turbo wail
Increased flat-six presence
Sharper high-RPM character
Increased pops and burbles during deceleration
More dramatic throttle-related sound
The Sport X-Pipe is intended to provide a meaningful sound upgrade without making the car excessively loud during normal cruising.
TURBOCHARGER SOUND
High-flow catalytic converters allow more of the turbochargers' natural sound to pass downstream.
Compared with the factory exhaust, expect more:
Turbo spool
Turbine whistle
Turbocharger mechanical character
Throttle-related feedback
Exhaust texture under boost
The combination of reduced catalyst restriction and freer rear exhaust architecture makes the turbocharged nature of the 991 Turbo considerably more apparent.
DECELERATION POPS & BURBLES
SOUL specifically notes increased pops and burbles during throttle lift and deceleration.
The exhaust itself does not manufacture artificial combustion events.
Instead, the freer-flowing catalyst and exhaust architecture allows more of the engine calibration's existing overrun behavior to be heard.
Driving mode, ECU calibration, and other engine modifications will influence the amount of this behavior.
NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DESIGN INTENT
One of the primary differences between this system and the Competition X-Pipe is retention of high-flow catalytic converters.
SOUL specifically developed the Sport X-Pipe to provide:
Added performance without a check engine light.
DasMotoring treats this as the manufacturer's intended operating behavior rather than an unconditional guarantee for every modified or high-mileage vehicle.
Diagnostic behavior can still be influenced by:
Oxygen-sensor condition
ECU software
Vehicle condition
Additional modifications
Catalyst condition
NO ECU TUNE REQUIRED
SOUL does not specify ECU calibration as a requirement for installing the Sport X-Pipe.
The system is designed to operate as a bolt-on hardware upgrade.
An ECU tune may provide additional performance by taking advantage of the increased exhaust-flow capacity, but one is not required simply to install the system.
MODULAR EXHAUST ARCHITECTURE
SOUL intentionally designed the 991 Turbo exhaust family around modularity.
The Sport X-Pipe allows owners to later:
Change exhaust-tip styles
Return to factory catalytic-converter sections
Convert to SOUL catless sections
This allows the exhaust configuration to evolve with the vehicle rather than requiring replacement of the entire system.
14.4-LB WEIGHT REDUCTION
SOUL publishes the following weights:
Factory Exhaust Components:
Approximately 45 lbs / 20.4 kg
SOUL Sport X-Pipe Exhaust:
Approximately 30.6 lbs / 13.9 kg
Weight Savings:
Approximately 14.4 lbs / 6.5 kg
That represents approximately a:
32% reduction
in the weight of the exhaust components being replaced.
Because this mass is concentrated at the rear of the 911, reducing it is particularly desirable.
T304L STAINLESS CONSTRUCTION
The main exhaust is constructed from:
Mandrel-bent T304L stainless steel
with:
3-inch diameter tubing
and:
.065-inch wall thickness
This provides a balance of:
High-temperature durability
Corrosion resistance
Structural strength
Relatively low weight
Consistent exhaust geometry
Long-term reliability
FULL-METAL RESONATOR PACKING
SOUL uses straight-through race resonators with full-metal packing rather than conventional packing materials that may degrade more quickly under sustained high exhaust temperatures.
This is particularly appropriate for a turbocharged application where exhaust-system temperatures can remain elevated during repeated high-load use.
LASER-CUT BRACKETS
The exhaust incorporates laser-cut brackets for consistent mounting geometry.
Each system is built and checked in a dedicated fixture prior to shipment to help ensure correct:
Exhaust alignment
Tip positioning
Catalyst positioning
Chassis clearance
Mounting-point geometry

PERFORMANCE
SOUL designed the 3-inch piping, high-flow catalysts, and X-pipe architecture to improve flow and support substantial horsepower.
However, SOUL's current product page does not provide a controlled stock-exhaust versus Sport X-Pipe dyno comparison.
DasMotoring therefore does not advertise a specific horsepower or torque gain for this product alone.
EMISSIONS NOTE
The Sport X-Pipe retains catalytic converters but replaces the factory Porsche catalyst assemblies with aftermarket high-flow components.
The system is not represented here as an original-equipment emissions component.
Customers are responsible for determining whether their vehicle and complete exhaust configuration comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
