Porsche 991.2 Carrera Base / S Without PSE SOUL Performance Exhaust System
Product Description
The SOUL Performance Exhaust System is designed specifically for 2017–2019 Porsche 991.2 Carrera and Carrera S models without Porsche Sport Exhaust / PSE, addressing one of the most common complaints with the factory non-PSE exhaust: it is simply too quiet.
SOUL developed the system to add substantially more turbocharged flat-six tone and volume while maintaining street-friendly drivability. Because non-PSE 991.2 Carreras are particularly susceptible to cabin resonance in the 1,800–2,200 RPM range, SOUL offers the system both with and without tuned Helmholtz anti-drone tubes.
The Anti-Drone version is the preferred configuration for street-driven cars, using side-branch Helmholtz chambers to target undesirable cruising frequencies without muting the exterior exhaust sound. For customers prioritizing minimum cost and weight, SOUL also offers a simplified version without the anti-drone tubes. SOUL states that the exterior volume and tone are essentially the same between the two configurations; the primary difference is the reduction in cabin drone.
Multiple exhaust-tip configurations are available, but tip compatibility depends heavily on whether the car is a Base or S model and whether factory or SOUL catalytic converters / Cat Bypass Pipes are installed.

DEVELOPED SPECIFICALLY FOR THE NON-PSE 991.2
The standard-exhaust 991.2 Carrera has a substantially more subdued exhaust character than many owners expect from a Porsche 911.
SOUL's development goal was to create a rear exhaust that was:
Simple
Lightweight
Aggressive
Street-drivable
Resistant to objectionable cabin drone
Instead of adapting a PSE exhaust to the non-PSE car, SOUL developed this system around the standard exhaust architecture.
THE 1,800–2,200 RPM DRONE PROBLEM
SOUL identified approximately:
1,800–2,200 RPM
as the critical resonance range on non-PSE 991.2 Carreras fitted with freer-flowing rear exhausts.
This is especially important because normal street and highway driving can place the engine directly within this range for extended periods.
An exhaust that sounds excellent under acceleration can therefore become tiring during steady-state cruising if those frequencies are not properly controlled.
HELMHOLTZ ANTI-DRONE TUBES
SOUL tested several approaches during development, including:
Conventional resonators
Helmholtz resonators
Straight-pipe configurations
Basic X-pipe arrangements
SOUL found that conventional resonators reduced overall engine tone and volume but did not address the problematic drone effectively enough.
The final street-oriented design therefore uses Helmholtz resonators, also commonly referred to as anti-drone tubes.
These are acoustically tuned side branches rather than conventional flow-through mufflers.
Their purpose is to cancel or reduce specific undesirable frequencies while allowing the main exhaust stream to remain comparatively unrestricted.
WITH ANTI-DRONE TUBES
The Anti-Drone configuration is the more refined version of the exhaust.
It retains the increased exterior sound of the SOUL system while specifically reducing cabin resonance in the 1,800–2,200 RPM range.
This configuration is particularly appropriate for:
Daily-driven cars
Highway use
Long-distance driving
PDK cars that frequently cruise at lower RPM
Customers sensitive to low-frequency cabin resonance
Vehicles also fitted with freer-flowing Sport Catalytic Converters
SOUL considers this configuration the best balance of sound and drivability.
WITHOUT ANTI-DRONE TUBES
SOUL also offers the system without the Helmholtz chambers.
This configuration is:
Less expensive
Lighter
Mechanically simpler
SOUL specifically states that the exterior volume and tone remain the same as the Anti-Drone version.
The primary difference is that the non-Helmholtz version does not provide the same reduction in the platform's problematic 1,800–2,200 RPM cabin resonance.
This makes it more appropriate for customers prioritizing:
Lowest purchase price
Minimum weight
Track use
Maximum simplicity
Drivers less concerned about cruising drone
SOUL does not currently publish the exact weight of the version without the Anti-Drone Tubes.
SOUND CHARACTER
Compared with the extremely subdued factory non-PSE exhaust, expect:
Increased cold-start volume
Greater flat-six character
Stronger acceleration sound
Increased turbocharger presence
More pronounced downshift sound
Increased pops and crackles where generated by the factory ECU calibration
Greater exhaust presence throughout the RPM range
A more engaging driving experience
The Anti-Drone and Non-Anti-Drone versions are designed to have essentially the same exterior exhaust volume and tone.
WITH FACTORY CATALYTIC CONVERTERS
The SOUL rear exhaust can be paired with the factory catalytic converters, but tip fitment becomes particularly important.
For Base cars with factory catalytic converters:
The factory Base exhaust tips must be retained.
SOUL specifically states that Base cars running factory catalysts should use the OEM tips.
For S models with factory catalytic converters:
The factory S-model tips are not compatible.
SOUL states that the car must instead use Base-model dual tips.
This should be confirmed before ordering parts for a Carrera S or Carrera 4S retaining the factory catalytic converters.
WITH SOUL SPORT CATALYTIC CONVERTERS
The exhaust was developed and tested with SOUL Sport Catalytic Converters because they are a common upgrade on the 991.2 Carrera.
Pairing the two systems provides:
Increased turbocharger sound
Increased overall exhaust volume
Reduced post-turbo restriction
Greater throttle response from the Sport Catalytic Converters
More aggressive rear exhaust sound
Ability to use SOUL exhaust-tip configurations where compatible
The Anti-Drone Tubes become particularly valuable as upstream exhaust components increase overall sound.
WITH SOUL CAT BYPASS PIPES
The Performance Exhaust can also be combined with SOUL's Cat Bypass Pipes.
This creates a substantially more aggressive exhaust configuration with:
No catalytic converters
Greater turbocharger sound
Increased exhaust volume
Reduced post-turbo restriction
More prominent pops and crackles
Greater cabin presence
Customers combining the Performance Exhaust with Cat Bypass Pipes should expect significantly more sound than with the factory catalytic converters.
BASE MODEL TIP COMPATIBILITY
The Base Carrera configuration can be ordered with:
Reuse OEM Tips
Carbon Fiber Tips
Polished Chrome Tips
Black Chrome Tips
However, there is an important upstream-component restriction:
When retaining the factory catalytic converters, SOUL specifies that Base models must use the OEM tips.
The SOUL tip configurations are intended for compatible exhaust combinations using SOUL Sport Catalytic Converters or Cat Bypass Pipes.
CARRERA S TIP COMPATIBILITY
Carrera S and Carrera 4S cars have a different factory exhaust/tip arrangement.
SOUL specifically states:
Factory S-model tips are not compatible with this exhaust.
When retaining the factory catalytic converters, an S model must use Base-model dual exhaust tips.
When using:
SOUL Sport Catalytic Converters
SOUL Cat Bypass Pipes
the S model can instead use SOUL:
Carbon Fiber tips
Polished Chrome tips
Black Chrome tips
This compatibility distinction is critical when configuring an S-model order.
CARBON FIBER TIPS
The Carbon Fiber configuration provides the most motorsport-oriented appearance.
It is available for compatible Base and S configurations.
With Anti-Drone Tubes: $3,115.00
Without Anti-Drone Tubes: $2,575.00
POLISHED CHROME TIPS
Polished Chrome provides a traditional bright exhaust finish.
It is available for compatible Base and S configurations.
With Anti-Drone Tubes: $3,115.00
Without Anti-Drone Tubes: $2,575.00
BLACK CHROME TIPS
Black Chrome provides the darkest of the available SOUL tip configurations.
It is available for compatible Base and S configurations.
With Anti-Drone Tubes: $3,355.00
Without Anti-Drone Tubes: $2,755.00
REUSE OEM TIPS
The OEM-tip configuration is the simplest and least expensive option for the Base model.
With Anti-Drone Tubes: $2,515.00
Without Anti-Drone Tubes: $1,975.00
For an S-model car, do not assume that the factory S tips can be reused. SOUL explicitly states that they are incompatible.
WEIGHT
For the Anti-Drone configuration, SOUL publishes:
Factory Exhaust Components:
Approximately 17.35 lbs
SOUL Performance Exhaust with Anti-Drone Tubes:
Approximately 16.7 lbs
Weight Savings:
Approximately 0.65 lb / 0.3 kg
The primary purpose of this version is therefore sound and drone management rather than major weight reduction.
SOUL states that the version without Anti-Drone Tubes is lighter but does not currently publish an exact weight.
CONSTRUCTION
Each exhaust is hand fabricated from:
Mandrel-bent .065-inch-wall T304L stainless steel
SOUL uses back-purged TIG welding to provide strong, durable welds while protecting the interior of the stainless tubing from excessive oxidation during fabrication.
Each completed exhaust undergoes in-house quality control.
FIXTURE-TESTED FITMENT
Every system is installed in a dedicated fabrication fixture before shipment to verify alignment and fitment.
SOUL then foam packs the exhaust to reduce the risk of cosmetic or structural damage during transportation.
BOLT-ON INSTALLATION
The system is designed as a bolt-on rear exhaust upgrade.
SOUL includes detailed installation instructions and describes the installation as suitable for experienced DIY enthusiasts.
The rear exhaust itself does not replace the vehicle's:
Turbochargers
Headers
Catalytic converters
Oxygen sensors
unless separate SOUL upstream components are installed at the same time.
PERFORMANCE
SOUL's current product page focuses primarily on:
Sound
Drone reduction
Weight
Construction
Drivability
It does not publish a controlled standalone horsepower or torque result for this rear exhaust.
DasMotoring therefore does not advertise a specific numerical power increase from the Performance Exhaust System alone.
