Porsche 991.2 Carrera with PSE SOUL Trackback Turbo Back Exhaust
Product Description
The SOUL Trackback Turbo Back Exhaust is the most aggressive exhaust system SOUL offers for the 2017–2019 Porsche 991.2 Carrera platform equipped with Porsche Sport Exhaust / PSE.
Designed around an exceptionally simple, lightweight architecture, the Trackback removes the factory rear muffler assembly and, in its catless configuration, the factory catalytic converters to create a straight dual 3-inch exhaust path from the turbochargers to the rear of the vehicle.
The result is maximum exhaust flow, dramatically increased turbocharger and flat-six sound, substantial rear weight reduction, and measurable horsepower and torque gains without the complexity of valves or conventional mufflers.
SOUL offers the system in both catless and catted configurations, along with five different exhaust-tip options ranging from competition-oriented 3-inch turn-downs to 4-inch double-wall tips.
In its lightweight catless configuration, the Trackback weighs approximately 12 lbs compared with 39 lbs for the corresponding factory exhaust components, removing approximately 27 lbs / 12.2 kg from the rear of the car.
Independent testing on an otherwise-stock 2017 Carrera 4S produced gains of approximately 17 wheel horsepower and 14 lb-ft of torque at 6,500 RPM.

TRUE TURBO-BACK ARCHITECTURE:
The Trackback is fundamentally different from the Valved Exhaust and X-Pipe systems we just cataloged.
Those products replace only the rear exhaust section.
The Trackback instead extends essentially:
From the turbocharger outlets all the way to the exhaust tips.
In the catless configuration, this eliminates the factory:
Catalytic converters
Rear muffler assembly
PSE rear exhaust flow paths
Exhaust valves
and replaces them with a simple dual 3-inch exhaust system.
The result is one of the shortest and least restrictive exhaust paths available for the 991.2 Carrera.
DUAL 3-INCH EXHAUST:
SOUL uses:
Dual 3-inch mandrel-bent tubing
from the turbochargers rearward.
This provides a large, continuous flow path without routing the exhaust through conventional rear mufflers or restrictive valve assemblies.
The simplified design prioritizes:
Exhaust flow
Turbocharger efficiency
Weight reduction
Sound
Mechanical simplicity
NON-VALVED DESIGN:
Although this product is intended for vehicles originally equipped with Porsche Sport Exhaust, the Trackback itself is not a valved exhaust.
The factory PSE rear muffler and its dual-mode flow architecture are removed.
That means there is no:
PSE quiet path
Valves-closed mode
Factory muffler
Driver-selectable exhaust-volume reduction
The exhaust delivers its aggressive performance character continuously.
Customers wanting substantially more sound while retaining a quiet mode should consider the SOUL Valved Exhaust System instead.
SOUL'S LOUDEST 991.2 CARRERA EXHAUST:
SOUL describes the Trackback as its:
lightest and loudest exhaust available for the 991.2 Carrera.
Customers should expect significant exhaust presence during essentially all operating conditions.
The system is specifically aimed at:
Track-day vehicles
Weekend cars
Lightweight builds
Drivers prioritizing maximum sound
Drivers prioritizing minimum exhaust restriction
Customers seeking a motorsports-oriented driving experience
It is not intended to provide factory-like refinement.
SOUND CHARACTER:
Expect a dramatic increase in:
Turbo spool
Turbo whistle
Flat-six exhaust character
Idle presence
Acceleration volume
High-RPM intensity
Gear-change sound
Deceleration crackles
Overall cabin presence
The reduction in muffling also allows significantly more mechanical and turbine sound to reach the driver.
EXPECT SIGNIFICANT CABIN PRESENCE:
This is particularly important for customers comparing the Trackback with SOUL's other 991.2 exhaust options.
The Trackback does not contain:
A conventional muffler
A valves-closed secondary exhaust route
The long Helmholtz chamber used in the SOUL X-Pipe
The dual resonators used in the SOUL Valved Exhaust
Consequently, the Trackback should be expected to produce substantially greater sound inside and outside the vehicle.
Some degree of low-RPM drone or cabin resonance should be considered normal for a system this aggressive.
DYNO-TESTED PERFORMANCE:
SOUL independently tested the Trackback at AWE Tuning.
The test vehicle was a:
2017 Porsche 991.2 Carrera 4S
with:
No other modifications
SOUL recorded approximately:
+17 wheel horsepower
and
+14 lb-ft of torque
at:
6,500 RPM
This makes the Trackback one of the 991.2 Carrera exhaust systems for which SOUL provides a controlled hardware-only before-and-after performance comparison.
PERFORMANCE WITHOUT AN ECU TUNE:
The published test was performed without requiring other performance modifications.
The straight-through exhaust reduced restriction sufficiently to produce measurable gains on the otherwise-stock Carrera 4S.
SOUL notes that additional gains may be possible when the reduced exhaust restriction is combined with appropriate engine-management software.
Actual results will depend on:
Carrera model
ECU calibration
Fuel
Turbocharger configuration
Catalyst configuration
Ambient conditions
Dyno type
CATLESS CONFIGURATION:
The lightest and most aggressive Trackback configuration removes the factory catalytic converters entirely.
This configuration provides:
Straight dual 3-inch exhaust flow
Minimum post-turbo restriction
Maximum exhaust volume
Maximum turbocharger sound
Minimum system weight
Approximately 27 lbs of documented weight reduction in SOUL's reference configuration
Because the catalytic converters are removed, this configuration may cause catalyst-related diagnostic faults.
CATTED CONFIGURATION:
SOUL also offers the Trackback with catalytic converters added to the system.
This preserves the basic turbo-back architecture while incorporating catalyst sections into the exhaust.
Compared with the completely catless configuration, expect:
Reduced exhaust odor
Reduced emissions
Some additional sound attenuation
Additional system weight
Greater exhaust restriction than the catless configuration
Reduced likelihood of catalyst-related diagnostic faults
The current SOUL product page does not specify the catalyst cell count or supplier, so DasMotoring does not advertise one.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT:
During SOUL's original Trackback development testing, the test vehicle did not produce a check engine light.
However, SOUL explicitly states that it does not guarantee the same result on every vehicle.
This is particularly important for the catless configuration because removing the factory catalytic converters alters the vehicle's catalyst-monitoring environment.
Individual results can vary depending on:
ECU software version
Oxygen-sensor condition
Vehicle calibration
Other modifications
Vehicle-to-vehicle diagnostic tolerances
ECU TUNING:
An ECU tune is not required for the Trackback to physically install.
However, custom calibration may be appropriate for:
Catalyst-related CEL management on catless cars
Optimizing performance
Higher boost targets
Modified turbocharger configurations
Additional supporting modifications
SOUL also notes that additional performance can be extracted when the freer-flowing exhaust is paired with appropriate software.
27-LB WEIGHT REDUCTION:
SOUL's published lightweight Trackback configuration weighs approximately:
12 lbs / 5.4 kg
compared with approximately:
39 lbs / 17.7 kg
for the corresponding factory components.
Weight Savings: approximately 27 lbs / 12.2 kg
This represents roughly a:
69% reduction
in the weight of the exhaust components being replaced.
Because this weight is removed from the extreme rear of the 911, it is particularly attractive for track-oriented and lightweight builds.
The 27-lb figure applies to SOUL's lightweight Trackback reference configuration and should not be assumed for every catted and tip combination.
RETAINS FACTORY TURBO HEAT SHIELDS:
Despite the Trackback's minimalist architecture, SOUL deliberately retains Porsche's factory turbocharger heat shields.
This preserves important thermal protection around:
Turbochargers
Wiring
Hoses
Engine-bay components
Adjacent heat-sensitive hardware
This is especially important on a track-focused exhaust where turbine and exhaust temperatures can remain elevated for extended periods.
.065-INCH T304L STAINLESS CONSTRUCTION:
The main exhaust assemblies are fabricated from:
.065-inch-wall T304L stainless steel
using smooth mandrel bends.
This provides:
High-temperature durability
Corrosion resistance
Structural strength
Consistent exhaust geometry
Long service life
321 STAINLESS EXHAUST TIPS:
SOUL specifies 321 stainless steel for the exhaust tips.
321 stainless is particularly well suited to high-temperature applications and complements the exhaust's track-focused design.
WATERJET-CUT FLANGES:
The Trackback uses thick flanges precision cut by waterjet.
These flanges are designed to maintain:
Proper sealing
Alignment
Structural durability
Consistent turbo-to-exhaust connection geometry
DIRECT BOLT-ON INSTALLATION:
The system is designed as a direct bolt-on replacement.
SOUL supplies:
Two Trackback pipe assemblies
Required installation hardware
Installation instructions
Each assembly is fixture-tested before shipment to verify fitment.
There is no need for cutting or welding during normal installation.
EXHAUST TIP OPTIONS:
SOUL currently offers five tip configurations.
3" Turn Down
The lightest and most competition-oriented configuration.
The outlets terminate downward rather than extending rearward through traditional large exhaust tips.
This option is especially appropriate for:
Track cars
Maximum weight reduction
Minimalist appearance
Directing exhaust flow downward
4" Slash Cut Single Wall
Large single-wall outlets with an angled cut for a more aggressive appearance.
4" Straight Cut Single Wall
Large single-wall outlets with a traditional straight termination.
4" Double Wall
Larger premium double-wall tips for a more substantial finished appearance.
4" Satin Black Double Wall
The darkest and most visually aggressive option, with a Satin Black finish and double-wall construction.

SOUL Valved Exhaust
Rear exhaust only
Retains active PSE-controlled sound modes
3-inch primary X-pipe
1.75-inch resonated secondary path
Better suited to regular street use
Approximately 3 lbs lighter than factory
The Valved Exhaust prioritizes versatility, while the Trackback prioritizes simplicity, sound, weight, and flow.
EMISSIONS / COMPETITION USE NOTE:
The catless Trackback configuration removes the vehicle's factory catalytic converters.
SOUL states that the system is not CARB certified and may not be legal for use on emissions-controlled vehicles.
Catless configurations are intended for off-road / competition use only.
Customers are responsible for determining compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations for their selected configuration.
