Porsche 991.2 Carrera with PSE SOUL X-Pipe Exhaust
Product Description
The SOUL X-Pipe Exhaust is a non-valved rear exhaust system designed specifically for 2017–2019 Porsche 991.2 Carrera models equipped with Porsche Sport Exhaust / PSE.
SOUL replaces the restrictive factory PSE rear muffler with a full 3-inch chambered X-pipe, blending the exhaust streams from both cylinder banks to produce a smoother, higher-pitched tone while maintaining a large, unrestricted primary flow path.
Unlike the factory PSE system—and unlike SOUL's Valved Exhaust System—this X-Pipe uses its performance exhaust path all the time. The factory secondary muffled flow path is eliminated, while that available space is repurposed into an extended Helmholtz chamber engineered to reduce undesirable low-RPM drone.
The result is a significantly more aggressive and consistent turbocharged flat-six soundtrack without simply turning the exhaust into an unrefined straight-pipe system.
At approximately 16.2 lbs, the SOUL X-Pipe also removes approximately 6.8 lbs / 3 kg compared with the 23-lb factory PSE rear exhaust.

FULL 3-INCH FLOW PATH:
The defining performance feature of the SOUL X-Pipe is its:
3-inch primary exhaust architecture
The factory exhaust must balance sound reduction, packaging requirements, valve operation, and production constraints.
SOUL instead prioritizes the primary performance route.
The larger 3-inch path provides increased exhaust-flow capacity for the turbocharged 3.0L flat-six and maintains that large effective diameter through the rear exhaust architecture.
This becomes increasingly valuable as engine airflow increases through modifications such as:
ECU tuning
Sport Catalytic Converters
Cat Bypass Pipes
Sport Headers
Other supporting performance modifications
CHAMBERED X-PIPE:
SOUL's design does more than simply connect the left and right exhaust banks with conventional tubing.
The system incorporates a purpose-designed chambered X-pipe that allows the exhaust streams from both cylinder banks to blend.
The design is intended to provide:
Smoother exhaust-pulse interaction
More cohesive flat-six sound
Higher-pitched character under load
Improved exhaust-flow potential
Greater exhaust-gas velocity
Less of the disconnected tone associated with the factory primary exhaust path
Importantly, SOUL designed the mixing chamber so the exhaust does not have to neck down substantially while the two banks blend.
NON-VALVED DESIGN:
This system is intentionally non-valved.
The factory PSE rear exhaust uses valves to switch between different exhaust-flow paths.
The SOUL X-Pipe removes that dual-path rear muffler architecture and provides its freer-flowing 3-inch performance path continuously.
That means there is no selectable quiet exhaust route within the SOUL X-Pipe itself.
For customers prioritizing:
Maximum consistent sound
Simpler exhaust architecture
Lower weight
Maximum primary-path flow
the non-valved X-Pipe is the more aggressive choice.
Customers who want to retain active exhaust-volume control should instead consider SOUL's Valved Exhaust System.
HELMHOLTZ ANTI-DRONE CHAMBER:
Simply eliminating the secondary exhaust path would increase sound, but could also increase undesirable low-frequency cabin resonance.
SOUL therefore repurposes the unused secondary-flow architecture into a lengthy Helmholtz chamber.
Rather than carrying the main exhaust stream, the Helmholtz chamber is acoustically tuned to interact with undesirable pressure waves in the exhaust system.
This helps reduce:
Low-RPM drone
Low-frequency cabin resonance
Booming during normal cruising
without requiring the primary 3-inch exhaust gases to pass through an additional conventional muffler.
WHY A HELMHOLTZ CHAMBER?
Traditional resonators and mufflers generally reduce sound by placing additional sound-attenuating structures directly in the exhaust flow.
A properly tuned Helmholtz chamber instead targets a specific frequency range while functioning as a side branch of the main exhaust path.
This allows SOUL to maintain:
Full 3-inch primary exhaust flow
while still addressing the frequencies most likely to become objectionable during normal street driving.
MORE SOUND ALL THE TIME:
Because the X-Pipe is non-valved, the car does not transition between a dedicated quiet path and performance path.
Expect:
More exhaust presence during normal driving
Increased idle character
Greater low- and midrange sound
Stronger throttle-related exhaust response
More turbocharger sound
Greater high-RPM volume
More pronounced pops and burbles when produced by the vehicle's calibration
Consistent exhaust character regardless of factory exhaust-valve position
The system is substantially more performance-oriented than the factory PSE rear muffler while still incorporating acoustic engineering to manage low-RPM drone.
SOUND CHARACTER:
SOUL specifically developed the X-Pipe to move away from the relatively muted and unblended character of the factory PSE system.
The expected sound profile is:
Smoother
Higher-pitched under load
More cohesive between cylinder banks
Louder than stock
More expressive through the rev range
More aggressive during acceleration
More pronounced during shifts and deceleration
More representative of the 3.0L turbocharged flat-six
The X-pipe affects tone, while removing the secondary flow path increases volume.
LOW-RPM DRONE CONTROL:
A major challenge with a non-valved rear exhaust is balancing increased exterior sound with acceptable interior refinement.
SOUL specifically developed the long Helmholtz chamber to keep low-RPM drone at what it considers reasonable levels.
This is particularly important during:
Highway cruising
Steady-state driving
PDK operation at lower engine speeds
Long-distance street use
SOUL states that even its development car fitted with upgraded headers and Sport Catalytic Converters remained suitable for street driving with this X-Pipe.
DEVELOPED WITH HIGHER-FLOW COMPONENTS:
The X-Pipe was not developed solely around an otherwise-stock exhaust configuration.
SOUL's development vehicle incorporated upgraded:
Headers
Catalytic converters
This allowed SOUL to evaluate the rear exhaust under a significantly higher-flow and louder upstream configuration.
That is useful for customers planning a staged build because the Helmholtz architecture was developed with additional exhaust modifications in mind.
WITH FACTORY CATALYTIC CONVERTERS:
Installed behind the original Porsche catalytic converters, the X-Pipe provides:
Larger downstream exhaust flow
Increased exhaust volume
Smoother X-pipe tone
Reduced rear-exhaust weight
Retained factory catalysts
Retained factory oxygen-sensor architecture
This is the simplest configuration for customers primarily looking for additional sound from an otherwise-stock PSE-equipped 991.2.
WITH SOUL SPORT CATALYTIC CONVERTERS:
Pairing the X-Pipe with SOUL Sport Catalytic Converters increases exhaust flow closer to the turbochargers while retaining a catted configuration.
The combination provides:
Increased turbocharger sound
Greater overall exhaust volume
Reduced catalyst restriction
Increased throttle response
Dyno-proven gains from the Sport Catalytic Converters
Full 3-inch rear exhaust path
More aggressive overall character
Because the X-Pipe has no quieter valve-controlled path, customers should expect the acoustic difference from the Sport Catalytic Converters to be present continuously.
WITH SOUL CAT BYPASS PIPES:
Combining the X-Pipe with Cat Bypass Pipes creates a substantially more aggressive configuration.
Removing the catalytic converters will further increase:
Exhaust volume
Turbocharger sound
Exhaust flow
Pops and burbles
Raw turbocharged engine character
This combination is considerably louder than the X-Pipe with factory or Sport catalytic converters and introduces separate emissions and diagnostic considerations.
WITH SOUL SPORT HEADERS:
SOUL Sport Headers address exhaust flow upstream of the turbochargers, while the X-Pipe addresses flow and sound downstream.
A more comprehensive configuration can therefore combine:
Sport Headers + Sport Catalytic Converters + X-Pipe Exhaust
for increased airflow across multiple sections of the exhaust system.
The X-Pipe's Helmholtz chamber remains useful as upstream components increase overall sound output.
6.8-LB WEIGHT REDUCTION:
SOUL publishes the following weights:
Factory PSE Rear Exhaust:
Approximately 23 lbs / 10.4 kg
SOUL X-Pipe Exhaust:
Approximately 16.2 lbs / 7.3 kg
Weight Savings:
Approximately 6.8 lbs / 3 kg
That represents a reduction of approximately:
30%
from the rear exhaust assembly being replaced.
The X-Pipe also saves approximately 3.8 lbs more than SOUL's Valved Exhaust System.
.065-INCH T304L STAINLESS CONSTRUCTION:
The system is manufactured from:
.065-inch-wall T304L stainless steel
This material provides:
High-temperature durability
Corrosion resistance
Structural strength
Consistent fabrication
Long service life
Each assembly undergoes SOUL's in-house quality-control process before shipment.
BOLT-ON INSTALLATION:
Each X-Pipe is built and tested in a dedicated fixture before shipment to verify proper fitment.
SOUL includes the necessary installation hardware.
The system replaces the factory PSE rear exhaust without changing the vehicle's:
Headers
Catalytic converters
Turbochargers
Oxygen sensors
unless those components are being upgraded separately.
PERFORMANCE:
The full 3-inch architecture provides greater exhaust-flow potential than the factory rear muffler.
SOUL specifically describes the system as maintaining full diameter through the X-pipe mixing section for optimal exhaust velocity and performance potential.
However, SOUL does not currently publish a controlled standalone horsepower or torque result for the X-Pipe Exhaust itself.
DasMotoring therefore does not advertise a specific numerical power increase from this component alone.

EXHAUST TIPS:
The SOUL X-Pipe is sold as a single rear-exhaust configuration.
There are no tip-style or tip-finish selections attached to this product SKU.
SOUL offers separate bolt-on exhaust tips for the 991.2 Carrera with PSE, allowing customers to choose their visible exhaust-tip configuration independently from the rear exhaust system.
EMISSIONS:
The X-Pipe replaces the rear muffler assembly downstream of the catalytic converters and oxygen sensors.
When used with the factory catalytic converters, it does not itself remove the vehicle's factory emissions-control hardware.
Emissions and diagnostic considerations can change when the system is combined with separate Cat Bypass Pipes or other emissions-related components.
