Porsche 992.1 Carrera / Carrera S / Carrera 4 / Carrera 4S / Carrera T / Targa / GTS SOUL Performance Exhaust System
Product Description
The SOUL Performance Exhaust System is designed for Porsche 992.1 Carrera owners looking for maximum exhaust flow, substantially increased sound, stronger turbocharger presence, and an aggressive performance-oriented character without the complexity of a valved rear exhaust.
Unlike SOUL's Valved Exhaust System, the Performance Exhaust uses a single, unrestricted exhaust path built around full 3-inch tubing from the catalyst sections through the proprietary X-pipe. This eliminates the smaller secondary flow path required by a valved system and allows SOUL to maximize exhaust flow and sound.
Two configurations are available. The Street Performance Exhaust incorporates SOUL's current-production high-flow catalytic converters for customers who want a catted system, while the Competition Performance Exhaust completely eliminates the catalytic converters for maximum flow, weight reduction, turbocharger sound, and exhaust volume.
SOUL's proprietary cast X-pipe maintains the full 3-inch internal diameter through the crossover while blending exhaust flow from both cylinder banks. Two straight-through resonators and tuned Helmholtz anti-drone chambers help smooth the tone and reduce unwanted cabin resonance while preserving the aggressive character expected from a performance-focused system.

NON-VALVED PERFORMANCE DESIGN:
The SOUL Performance Exhaust is designed around a single, high-flow exhaust path rather than a quieter secondary path controlled by valves.
This allows SOUL to use full 3-inch tubing throughout the system, maximizing available flow and allowing considerably more sound to reach the driver.
The result is substantially more aggressive than the factory exhaust and remains aggressive at all times.
This system is best suited to owners who prioritize:
Maximum exhaust character
Increased turbocharger sound
Maximum available exhaust flow
Reduced restriction
Performance-oriented driving
A consistent exhaust note without valve intervention
Owners looking for a significantly quieter cruising mode should consider the SOUL Valved Exhaust System instead.
3-INCH X-PIPE DESIGN:
The factory 992.1 Carrera exhaust uses tubing limited to approximately 2.75 inches.
SOUL's Performance Exhaust increases the system to a full 3-inch flow path, beginning with purpose-built catalyst or cat-bypass sections and continuing into the X-pipe assembly.
Rather than constructing the crossover from intersecting bent tubes that reduce the effective internal diameter, SOUL uses a cast X-pipe designed to maintain the full 3-inch cross-section.
The crossover is also elongated to blend exhaust flow progressively between the two cylinder banks.
This creates a smoother exhaust path while contributing to the higher-pitched, more exotic tone of the complete system.
RESONATORS & DRONE CONTROL:
SOUL initially tested four straight-through resonators during development but found that the 992 platform's relatively insulated cabin allowed additional sound without becoming excessively intrusive.
The production Performance Exhaust therefore uses two resonators, increasing overall exhaust volume while retaining enough sound control to refine the tone.
The 992 platform also exhibits a natural drone range around approximately 2,000–2,400 RPM, particularly as exhaust restriction is reduced.
SOUL developed dedicated Helmholtz anti-drone chambers to target these frequencies. The tuned chambers are looped together for a symmetrical layout while remaining internally separated so each chamber retains its acoustic function.
Drone is reduced rather than completely eliminated, which is important for customers considering this system for extensive highway use.
SOUND CHARACTER:
The Performance Exhaust is intentionally aggressive.
Expect:
A substantially louder exhaust note than stock
A fuller and smoother flat-six tone
Higher-pitched character as RPM increases
Significantly more turbocharger sound
Greater mechanical feedback
A strong ripping growl under acceleration
Increased burbles during deceleration in Sport mode
More cabin presence throughout the rev range
Some remaining resonance around the 2,000–2,400 RPM range
The Competition / Catless configuration provides the most dramatic sound, adding significantly more turbocharger whistle and induction-like character.
The Street / High-Flow Catted configuration retains catalysts and provides a somewhat more restrained exhaust note while remaining substantially more aggressive than stock.
STREET PERFORMANCE EXHAUST:
The Street configuration combines the full 3-inch Performance Exhaust architecture with SOUL's current-production high-flow catalytic converters.
This provides:
Full 3-inch exhaust flow
High-flow catalytic converters
Increased turbocharger sound
Stronger flat-six character
Reduced restriction compared with the factory exhaust
More aggressive sound while retaining a catted configuration
Current-production catalyst technology developed to avoid catalyst-related check engine lights under normal North American operation
Earlier versions of SOUL's 992 Sport Catalytic Converters used HJS catalyst cores. Current-production systems use an updated performance catalyst that SOUL has extensively tested for sound, performance, and diagnostic compatibility.
COMPETITION PERFORMANCE EXHAUST:
The Competition configuration completely eliminates the catalytic converters.
This provides:
Maximum exhaust flow
Maximum turbocharger sound
Greatest exhaust volume
Maximum available weight reduction
Most aggressive flat-six character
Lowest exhaust restriction
The complete catless system weighs approximately 36.45 lbs, compared with approximately 42.95 lbs for the factory components.
Approximate Competition-system weight savings: 6.5 lbs / 2.9 kg
Because the catalytic converters are removed, catalyst-related diagnostic trouble codes are possible and the system is intended for appropriate competition applications.
VALVE SIMULATOR BRACKETS:
The factory 992.1 Carrera uses electronically actuated exhaust valves.
These actuators cannot simply be unplugged when converting to a non-valved exhaust system. Doing so can place the vehicle into limp mode.
The electronic actuators also cannot simply be removed from their original mechanical valves and left electrically connected.
SOUL includes dedicated valve simulator brackets that provide the factory electronic actuators with the appropriate mechanical start and stop positions, allowing the vehicle to recognize normal actuator movement even though the exhaust itself no longer contains valves.
The brackets are included with the Performance Exhaust System and are designed to prevent valve-related check engine lights or limp-mode operation.
STREET VS. COMPETITION:
Street – High-Flow Catalytic Converters
Retains catalytic converters
Full 3-inch flow path
Aggressive non-valved exhaust
Increased turbocharger sound
More street-oriented of the two configurations
Current-production catalysts designed around no-CEL operation under normal North American conditions
Competition – No Catalytic Converters
Completely catless
Full 3-inch flow path
Maximum exhaust flow
Maximum exhaust and turbocharger sound
Approximately 6.5 lbs lighter than the factory exhaust components
Catalyst-related fault codes are possible
Competition-focused configuration
PERFORMANCE EXHAUST VS. VALVED EXHAUST:
The Performance Exhaust System is designed around maximum flow and sound using one unrestricted exhaust path.
The Valved Exhaust System provides greater flexibility by giving the driver a significantly quieter secondary exhaust path when the valves close.
Performance Exhaust
Non-valved
Full 3-inch primary flow path
More aggressive at all times
Maximum flow potential
Tuned resonators and Helmholtz chambers reduce—but do not eliminate—drone
Valved Exhaust
Switchable sound levels
Quieter cruising configuration
Better choice for owners prioritizing daily-driving refinement
Designed for a more significant reduction in cabin drone
GPF / MARKET COMPATIBILITY:
The Performance Exhaust System is intended for North American-market 992.1 Carrera vehicles without Gasoline Particulate Filters / GPF.
Vehicles outside North America may use different factory particulate-filter and emissions hardware.
Customers with European or other GPF-equipped vehicles should confirm compatibility before ordering.
EMISSIONS / USE NOTE:
The Street configuration replaces the factory catalytic converters with aftermarket high-flow catalytic converters.
The Competition configuration completely removes the catalytic converters.
Neither configuration is CARB certified, and legality varies by jurisdiction.
The Competition configuration is intended for closed-course competition use only where required, and United States customers purchasing the catless system may be required to complete SOUL's Catless Exhaust Component Waiver.
Customers are responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
