The SOUL Sport Cat Downpipe is designed specifically for the 992.2 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS T-Hybrid platform, targeting one of the most restrictive sections of the factory exhaust system while retaining a high-flow catalytic converter.

Porsche's 3.6-liter T-Hybrid powertrain uses a high-flow electrically assisted turbocharger / eTurbo, but the factory exhaust gases must pass through a large Gasoline Particulate Filter and restrictive catalytic-converter assembly immediately downstream. SOUL replaces this assembly with a significantly freer-flowing downpipe built around a SOUL-designed 300-cell performance catalyst and a purpose-engineered 316L stainless steel 3D-printed turbo inlet.

The result is substantially reduced post-turbine restriction, noticeably greater turbocharger sound, stronger engine character, improved response, and significant weight savings while retaining a catted exhaust configuration.

The complete SOUL Sport Cat Downpipe weighs approximately 16.75 lbs, compared with approximately 27.4 lbs for the factory assembly, saving 10.65 lbs / 4.8 kg. SOUL Performance Products

992.2 GTS T-HYBRID EXHAUST ARCHITECTURE:

The 992.2 Carrera GTS uses Porsche's new T-Hybrid powertrain architecture rather than the conventional twin-turbo arrangement used by earlier Carrera GTS models.

At the heart of the system is a single electrically assisted exhaust-gas turbocharger.

The electric motor integrated into the turbocharger allows the turbine to accelerate much more rapidly than a conventional turbocharger, significantly reducing the lag that would normally accompany the large exhaust-flow cross-sections required by the engine.

This gives Porsche the ability to move substantial exhaust mass through the turbocharger while maintaining extremely quick boost response.

FACTORY GPF RESTRICTION:

SOUL describes the factory GTS downpipe as one of the most restrictive exhaust components it has encountered on a performance vehicle.

After exhaust exits the eTurbo, it must pass through a large approximately 8-inch GPF assembly and restrictive catalytic converter.

The substantial cross-sectional restriction limits how efficiently the gases can move away from the turbine.

SOUL's Sport Cat Downpipe removes the restrictive GPF section and replaces the catalyst architecture with a much freer-flowing performance configuration. SOUL Performance Products

300-CELL PERFORMANCE CATALYST:

At the center of the SOUL downpipe is a SOUL-designed 300-cell catalytic converter.

The catalyst incorporates:

3D-PRINTED 316L TURBO INLET:

SOUL uses next-generation metal additive manufacturing to produce the downpipe inlet.

The inlet is 3D printed from 316L stainless steel and specifically engineered to optimize the transition from the eTurbo into the catalytic converter.

Metal 3D printing allows SOUL to create internal geometry that would be difficult or impossible to reproduce using conventional cut-and-weld fabrication.

FACTORY GPF MONITORING INTEGRATION:

Removing the factory particulate-filter section introduces an important electronic challenge.

The Porsche ECU monitors the operation of the factory GPF system, including exhaust-pressure behavior.

SOUL engineered provisions into the Sport Cat Downpipe to replicate the factory GPF pressure differentials while also accounting for factory oxygen-sensor behavior.

The goal is to minimize the likelihood of diagnostic faults on an otherwise untuned vehicle.

TURBO RESPONSE / DRIVABILITY:

Reducing restriction directly downstream of the eTurbo allows exhaust gases to leave the turbine more efficiently.

Because the T-Hybrid system can spool the electrically assisted turbo extremely quickly, the freer-flowing downstream exhaust allows more of the system's available flow capability to be utilized.

SOUL reports gains of more than 50 wheel horsepower and 40 lb-ft of torque from its complete Performance Exhaust System while retaining the factory ECU software.

SOUL states that the majority of those gains result from the increased efficiency of the Sport Cat section.
