Upgrade your manual Porsche 911 with a complete AASCO billet aluminum lightweight flywheel and Sachs Performance clutch package designed to reduce rotating mass, dramatically improve engine response, and refresh the clutch system at the same time. This kit pairs the AASCO 13 lb lightweight flywheel with compatible Sachs Performance clutch components, making it a great option for owners who want a matched flywheel and clutch setup instead of purchasing the flywheel by itself.

Compared to the heavier factory 32 lb flywheel setup, the AASCO lightweight flywheel reduces rotating engine mass and helps the engine rev more freely, respond more sharply, and feel more alive during downshifts, heel-toe shifting, and spirited driving.

At DasMotoring, this is one of our favorite upgrades for a manual Porsche. A lightweight flywheel can completely change the character of the car — making it feel sharper, more mechanical, and more connected. If your 996 or 997 has started to feel a little too slow or soulless, this is one of those upgrades that can reignite your love for the car and give it some of that 911 S/T-inspired character and flair.

This complete kit is a great choice for drivers looking for a more responsive, motorsport-inspired feel from their manual 911 while also replacing the clutch, pressure plate, release bearing, and related hardware with a matched Sachs Performance clutch package. The AASCO flywheel also uses a serviceable friction surface. With proper maintenance and normal use, the flywheel body is designed to be reused long-term — so future clutch services typically only require replacing the friction surface rather than the entire flywheel.

Fits select manual transmission Porsche 911 models:

• 1999–2001 Porsche 911 Carrera / Carrera 4, 996 chassis, non-turbo

• 2005–2008 Porsche 911 Carrera / Carrera 4, 997 chassis, non-turbo

This kit is for select 996 / 997 non-turbo manual applications using the Sachs Performance clutch and pressure plate setup included with this package.

For 2002–2004 Porsche 996 Carrera / Carrera 4 applications, AASCO lists a different pressure plate configuration. Use part number 106411-11-PKG-02-04 instead.

This kit is not intended for Turbo, GT3, or 997 Carrera S / Carrera 4S applications unless specifically confirmed.

Driving Feel

A lightweight flywheel reduces rotating mass at the engine, allowing the engine to gain and lose RPM more quickly. The result is a sharper, more immediate connection between your right foot, the engine, and the gearbox. Rev-matched downshifts feel cleaner, throttle blips feel more natural, and the car takes on a more responsive, motorsport-style personality.

Because the flywheel is significantly lighter than stock, some additional drivetrain noise, gear rollover sound, or chatter may be present compared to the factory dual-mass flywheel setup. This is normal for many lightweight flywheel conversions and is part of the more mechanical driving experience.

The best way to minimize NVH and gearbox chatter is to avoid lugging the engine. Drivers should never lug the engine to begin with, and this is especially important with a lightweight flywheel. Keeping the engine above approximately 2,000 rpm, or selecting a lower gear when climbing hills or accelerating from low speed, will help keep the drivetrain happier and reduce unwanted chatter. The higher the rpm, the less drivetrain chatter and NVH you will have.

Which Version Should I Buy?

AASCO offers several similar-looking lightweight flywheel options for the 996 / 997 Carrera platform, and the correct part depends on your model year and clutch / pressure plate setup.

This listing is for the AASCO 106411-11-PKG complete kit. It is the right choice if you want the AASCO lightweight flywheel, Sachs Performance pressure plate, Sachs clutch disc, release bearing, and hardware together as a matched package.

Flywheel-Only vs. Complete Kit

Choose the 106411-11 flywheel-only listing if your car already has a compatible clutch and pressure plate setup in good condition, or if you are replacing an existing AASCO 106411-11 flywheel and reusing compatible clutch components.

Choose this 106411-11-PKG complete kit if your clutch is due for replacement, your pressure plate is worn or unknown, or you want the flywheel and clutch components matched together from the start.

Important Model-Year Note

For 2002–2004 Porsche 996 Carrera / Carrera 4 applications, use 106411-11-PKG-02-04 instead. AASCO lists those cars with a different pressure plate configuration.

For 2005–2008 Porsche 997.1 Carrera S / Carrera 4S 3.8L applications, this is not the primary kit we would point you toward without confirmation. The correct AASCO option depends on the pressure plate configuration:

• If your 997.1 Carrera S / Carrera 4S is using the factory OEM pressure plate, AASCO lists the flywheel-only option as 106417-11.

• If your 997.1 Carrera S / Carrera 4S is using, or being converted to, the Sachs Performance clutch / pressure plate setup, AASCO lists the complete kit as 106411-11-02-04-PKG.

Installation Notes

AASCO notes that the larger portion of the clutch disc spring carrier must face toward the flywheel. If the clutch disc is installed backwards, the clutch diaphragm spring may contact the clutch disc, which can result in clutch failure and may not be covered under warranty.

Professional installation is recommended. However, there are DIY how-to guides linked below if you have the tools and equipment at home.
