Upgrade your manual Porsche 997.2 Carrera or Carrera S with an AASCO lightweight steel flywheel designed to reduce rotating mass and dramatically improve engine response while retaining the factory OEM pressure plate setup. This 17.2 lb lightweight steel flywheel replaces the heavier factory dual-mass flywheel setup on compatible Porsche 997.2 DFI manual models, helping the engine rev more freely, respond more sharply, and feel more alive during downshifts, heel-toe shifting, and spirited driving.

Driving Feel

A lightweight flywheel reduces rotating mass at the engine, allowing the engine to gain and lose RPM more quickly. The result is a sharper, more immediate connection between your right foot, the engine, and the gearbox. Rev-matched downshifts feel cleaner, throttle blips feel more natural, and the car takes on a more responsive, motorsport-style personality.

Because the flywheel is lighter than the factory dual-mass flywheel setup, some additional drivetrain noise, gear rollover sound, or chatter may be present. This is normal for many lightweight flywheel conversions and is part of the more mechanical driving experience.

The best way to minimize NVH and gearbox chatter is to avoid lugging the engine. Drivers should never lug the engine to begin with, and this is especially important with a lightweight flywheel. Keeping the engine above approximately 2,000 rpm, or selecting a lower gear when climbing hills or accelerating from low speed, will help keep the drivetrain happier and reduce unwanted chatter. The higher the rpm, the less drivetrain chatter and NVH you will have.

Which Version Should I Buy?

AASCO offers several similar-looking lightweight flywheel and clutch options for the 997.2 DFI platform. The correct choice depends on your engine, pressure plate configuration, and whether you want the flywheel only or a complete clutch package.

This listing is for the AASCO 106424-12 lightweight steel flywheel. It is the right choice if your 2009–2012 Porsche 997.2 Carrera / Carrera S / GTS manual is retaining the factory OEM pressure plate setup.

OEM Pressure Plate vs. Sachs Performance Package

For 997.2 DFI applications, the correct AASCO option depends on the clutch and pressure plate setup:

• If your 997.2 Carrera / Carrera S / GTS is using the factory OEM pressure plate, use 106424-12.

• If your 997.2 Carrera / Carrera S / GTS is being converted to the Sachs Performance clutch / pressure plate setup, use the complete 106425-12-PKG kit instead.

How This Differs From Earlier 997 Flywheels

The 106411-11 and 106417-11 flywheels are for earlier 996 / 997.1 Carrera applications depending on the model and pressure plate configuration.

The 106424-12 flywheel is for later 997.2 DFI applications using the factory OEM pressure plate setup.

Do not assume an earlier 996 / 997.1 flywheel is correct for a 997.2 DFI car. For compatible 997.2 DFI applications using the factory OEM pressure plate, use 106424-12.

Flywheel-Only vs. Complete Kit

Choose this 106424-12 flywheel listing if your car already has a compatible factory OEM pressure plate setup in good condition, or if you are replacing an existing AASCO 106424-12 flywheel and reusing compatible clutch components.

Choose the complete 106425-12-PKG kit instead if:
