Product Description
The SOUL Cat Bypass Pipes are designed for Porsche 997.1 Carrera owners looking for maximum exhaust flow, substantial weight reduction, and the most aggressive naturally aspirated flat-six sound available from the center section of the exhaust system. By completely removing the restrictive factory catalytic converters, the Cat Bypass Pipes create a freer-flowing exhaust path while allowing significantly more of the engine's mechanical character to come through.
During development, SOUL compared a traditional X-pipe configuration with a separated-bank design. Testing showed that joining the banks with an X-pipe reduced some of the deeper frequencies that contribute to the distinctive 997.1 exhaust note. SOUL therefore chose to keep the left and right cylinder banks separated, producing a deeper and fuller flat-six sound with increased volume and a subtle hint of rasp reminiscent of earlier air-cooled Porsche exhaust systems.
The Cat Bypass Pipes are constructed from 2.25-inch OD, .065-inch-wall T304L stainless steel tubing with smooth mandrel bends and durable exhaust flanges. The complete assemblies weigh approximately 8.75 lbs, compared with approximately 15 lbs for the factory catalytic converter sections, reducing weight by approximately 6.25 lbs / 2.8 kg.

SOUND CHARACTER:
SOUL specifically developed the 997.1 Cat Bypass Pipes around a separated-bank exhaust design rather than an X-pipe crossover.
During development, SOUL found that joining the exhaust banks with an X-pipe produced a hollower tone and removed some of the deeper frequencies that contribute to the character of the 997.1 flat-six.
