The SOUL Sport Catalytic Converters are designed for Porsche 997.1 Carrera owners looking to improve exhaust flow, throttle response, power, and naturally aspirated flat-six sound while retaining catalytic converters. The factory 997.1 catalytic converters are a significant restriction in the exhaust system, making this one of the most effective upgrades for owners who want additional performance and sound without moving to a fully catless configuration.

Rather than joining the two cylinder banks with an X-pipe, SOUL intentionally keeps the exhaust banks separated through the catalytic converter sections. During development, SOUL compared both configurations and found that the separate-bank design retained more of the deep frequencies and mechanical character of the 997.1 flat-six. The result is a deeper, fuller exhaust note with increased volume and a subtle hint of rasp reminiscent of earlier air-cooled Porsche exhaust systems.

Independent Dynojet testing performed by Growler Motor Labs demonstrated repeatable peak gains of approximately 10 wheel horsepower and 14 lb-ft of torque, along with noticeable improvement through the midrange. SOUL also reports improved throttle response and overall drivability.

The Sport Catalytic Converters reduce weight compared with the factory components as well. The factory catalytic converter sections weigh approximately 15 lbs, while the SOUL assemblies weigh approximately 13 lbs, saving approximately 2 lbs / 0.9 kg.

EXHAUST SOUND:

SOUL specifically evaluated both separated-bank and X-pipe configurations when developing the 997.1 Sport Catalytic Converters.

SOUL found that incorporating an X-pipe into this section reduced overall volume and removed some of the deeper frequencies that contribute to the distinctive 997.1 flat-six sound.

The production Sport Catalytic Converters therefore retain separate left and right exhaust banks, producing a deeper, fuller exhaust note with more mechanical character and a subtle hint of rasp.

When paired with the factory rear mufflers, the result is an increase in sound and character while retaining much of the refinement of the original exhaust system.

Pairing the Sport Catalytic Converters with SOUL Sport Side Mufflers or the SOUL Valved Exhaust System will further increase overall exhaust volume and character.

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT:

SPORT CAT VS. CAT BYPASS:

The SOUL Sport Catalytic Converters retain high-flow catalytic converters while improving exhaust flow, power, throttle response, and flat-six sound.

The SOUL Cat Bypass Pipes eliminate the catalytic converters entirely for a lighter, less restrictive, and substantially more aggressive exhaust configuration.

For owners who want increased performance and sound while retaining catalytic converters and SOUL's no-CEL design intent, the Sport Catalytic Converters provide the more street-oriented solution.
