Rear muffler
Exhaust valves
PSE controls
Catalytic converters
Oxygen sensors
ECU calibration
Porsche's factory exhaust button and valve operation continue functioning normally.
DIRECT BOLT-ON INSTALLATION
The factory exhaust tips are removed and the SOUL tips are secured directly to the existing PSE outlets.
SOUL uses T-bolt clamps to apply even clamping force around the exhaust connection.
Each tip assembly also incorporates an internal alignment ring, allowing the installer to fine-tune positioning within the rear bumper.
Approximately:
0.5 inch
of tip-depth adjustment is available through the PSE mounting arrangement.
This allows the installer to adjust the final appearance for:
Even left-to-right positioning
Desired bumper protrusion
Proper alignment within the exhaust openings
Consistent tip depth
.060-INCH T304L STAINLESS CONSTRUCTION
Each tip begins with:
.060-inch-wall T304L stainless-steel tubing
The tubing is precision cut and hand finished before each set undergoes SOUL's quality-control process.
T304L stainless provides:
Corrosion resistance
High-temperature durability
Long service life
Consistent appearance
Suitable durability for street and track environments
2.5" TURN DOWN TIPS
The 2.5-inch Turn Down Tips are the most track-oriented option.
Rather than using large rear-facing decorative outlets, the exhaust exits downward.
Benefits include:
Minimalist motorsport appearance
Lower weight
Reduced visual emphasis on the exhaust outlets
Ability to direct exhaust gases downward
Lowest-cost configuration
The Turn Down configuration is offered in Signature Satin.
Price: $295.00
4" SLASH CUT SINGLE WALL
The 4-inch Slash Cut Single Wall Tips provide the most aggressive conventional rear-facing appearance.
The angled outlet gives the exhaust a more pronounced profile when viewed from the rear quarter of the vehicle.
Available in:
Signature Satin
Brushed
Satin Black
The Slash Cut tips weigh approximately 3.2 lbs per set.
4" STRAIGHT CUT SINGLE WALL
The 4-inch Straight Cut Single Wall Tips use a traditional motorsport-inspired straight outlet.
Compared with the Slash Cut design, the outlet face terminates perpendicular to the exhaust pipe for a cleaner and more symmetrical appearance.
Available in:
Signature Satin
Brushed
Satin Black
4" DELUXE DOUBLE WALL
The 4-inch Deluxe Double Wall Tips provide a more substantial and finished appearance than the single-wall options.
The additional outer wall creates a thicker visual edge around the exhaust outlet, producing a more premium OEM-plus appearance.

OEM TIP WEIGHT COMPARISON
SOUL lists the original Porsche PSE exhaust tips at approximately:
3.2 lbs
For comparison:
4" Slash Cut Single Wall: approximately 3.2 lbs
4" Deluxe Double Wall: approximately 3.5 lbs
2.5" Turn Down: approximately 2.0 lbs
The Turn Down configuration therefore removes approximately 1.2 lbs compared with the original PSE tips.
For the conventional street-tip configurations, this product should primarily be considered a cosmetic upgrade rather than a meaningful weight-reduction modification.
COSMETIC UPGRADE
These tips do not meaningfully alter exhaust flow or engine performance.
They do not replace:
Headers
Turbochargers
Catalytic converters
Rear muffler
PSE valves
No horsepower or torque increase should be expected from the exhaust tips alone.
Their primary purpose is to change the vehicle's rear appearance while retaining the complete factory PSE system.
NO ECU TUNE REQUIRED
Because this modification occurs at the very end of the exhaust system, no ECU calibration is required.
Installation does not alter:
Catalyst monitoring
Oxygen-sensor readings
Turbocharger operation
Factory PSE programming
COMPATIBLE WITH THE FACTORY PSE EXHAUST
The tips can be installed directly on an otherwise-stock PSE-equipped vehicle.
This is the simplest configuration and allows customers to retain all of Porsche's original exhaust hardware while changing only the visible outlets.
COMPATIBLE WITH APPLICABLE SOUL REAR EXHAUSTS
These tips may also be used with applicable SOUL exhaust systems that retain the factory-style PSE outlet interface.
Tip compatibility should be confirmed when combining components from different exhaust configurations.
Product Description
The SOUL Trackback Turbo Back Exhaust is the most aggressive exhaust system SOUL offers for the 2017–2019 Porsche 991.2 Carrera platform equipped with Porsche Sport Exhaust / PSE.
Designed around an exceptionally simple, lightweight architecture, the Trackback removes the factory rear muffler assembly and, in its catless configuration, the factory catalytic converters to create a straight dual 3-inch exhaust path from the turbochargers to the rear of the vehicle.
The result is maximum exhaust flow, dramatically increased turbocharger and flat-six sound, substantial rear weight reduction, and measurable horsepower and torque gains without the complexity of valves or conventional mufflers.
SOUL offers the system in both catless and catted configurations, along with five different exhaust-tip options ranging from competition-oriented 3-inch turn-downs to 4-inch double-wall tips.
In its lightweight catless configuration, the Trackback weighs approximately 12 lbs compared with 39 lbs for the corresponding factory exhaust components, removing approximately 27 lbs / 12.2 kg from the rear of the car.
Independent testing on an otherwise-stock 2017 Carrera 4S produced gains of approximately 17 wheel horsepower and 14 lb-ft of torque at 6,500 RPM.

TRUE TURBO-BACK ARCHITECTURE:
The Trackback is fundamentally different from the Valved Exhaust and X-Pipe systems we just cataloged.
Those products replace only the rear exhaust section.
The Trackback instead extends essentially:
From the turbocharger outlets all the way to the exhaust tips.
In the catless configuration, this eliminates the factory:
Catalytic converters
Rear muffler assembly
PSE rear exhaust flow paths
Exhaust valves
and replaces them with a simple dual 3-inch exhaust system.
The result is one of the shortest and least restrictive exhaust paths available for the 991.2 Carrera.
DUAL 3-INCH EXHAUST:
SOUL uses:
Dual 3-inch mandrel-bent tubing
from the turbochargers rearward.
This provides a large, continuous flow path without routing the exhaust through conventional rear mufflers or restrictive valve assemblies.
The simplified design prioritizes:
Exhaust flow
Turbocharger efficiency
Weight reduction
Sound
Mechanical simplicity
NON-VALVED DESIGN:
Although this product is intended for vehicles originally equipped with Porsche Sport Exhaust, the Trackback itself is not a valved exhaust.
The factory PSE rear muffler and its dual-mode flow architecture are removed.
That means there is no:
PSE quiet path
Valves-closed mode
Factory muffler
Driver-selectable exhaust-volume reduction
The exhaust delivers its aggressive performance character continuously.
Customers wanting substantially more sound while retaining a quiet mode should consider the SOUL Valved Exhaust System instead.
SOUL'S LOUDEST 991.2 CARRERA EXHAUST:
SOUL describes the Trackback as its:
lightest and loudest exhaust available for the 991.2 Carrera.
Customers should expect significant exhaust presence during essentially all operating conditions.
The system is specifically aimed at:
Track-day vehicles
Weekend cars
Lightweight builds
Drivers prioritizing maximum sound
Drivers prioritizing minimum exhaust restriction
Customers seeking a motorsports-oriented driving experience
It is not intended to provide factory-like refinement.
SOUND CHARACTER:
Expect a dramatic increase in:
Turbo spool
Turbo whistle
Flat-six exhaust character
Idle presence
Acceleration volume
High-RPM intensity
Gear-change sound
Deceleration crackles
Overall cabin presence
The reduction in muffling also allows significantly more mechanical and turbine sound to reach the driver.
EXPECT SIGNIFICANT CABIN PRESENCE:
This is particularly important for customers comparing the Trackback with SOUL's other 991.2 exhaust options.
The Trackback does not contain:
A conventional muffler
A valves-closed secondary exhaust route
The long Helmholtz chamber used in the SOUL X-Pipe
The dual resonators used in the SOUL Valved Exhaust
Consequently, the Trackback should be expected to produce substantially greater sound inside and outside the vehicle.
Some degree of low-RPM drone or cabin resonance should be considered normal for a system this aggressive.
DYNO-TESTED PERFORMANCE:
SOUL independently tested the Trackback at AWE Tuning.
The test vehicle was a:
2017 Porsche 991.2 Carrera 4S
with:
No other modifications
SOUL recorded approximately:
+17 wheel horsepower
and
+14 lb-ft of torque
at:
6,500 RPM
This makes the Trackback one of the 991.2 Carrera exhaust systems for which SOUL provides a controlled hardware-only before-and-after performance comparison.
PERFORMANCE WITHOUT AN ECU TUNE:
The published test was performed without requiring other performance modifications.
The straight-through exhaust reduced restriction sufficiently to produce measurable gains on the otherwise-stock Carrera 4S.
SOUL notes that additional gains may be possible when the reduced exhaust restriction is combined with appropriate engine-management software.
Actual results will depend on:
Carrera model
ECU calibration
Fuel
Turbocharger configuration
Catalyst configuration
Ambient conditions
Dyno type
CATLESS CONFIGURATION:
The lightest and most aggressive Trackback configuration removes the factory catalytic converters entirely.
This configuration provides:
Straight dual 3-inch exhaust flow
Minimum post-turbo restriction
Maximum exhaust volume
Maximum turbocharger sound
Minimum system weight
Approximately 27 lbs of documented weight reduction in SOUL's reference configuration
Because the catalytic converters are removed, this configuration may cause catalyst-related diagnostic faults.
CATTED CONFIGURATION:
SOUL also offers the Trackback with catalytic converters added to the system.
This preserves the basic turbo-back architecture while incorporating catalyst sections into the exhaust.
Compared with the completely catless configuration, expect:
Reduced exhaust odor
Reduced emissions
Some additional sound attenuation
Additional system weight
Greater exhaust restriction than the catless configuration
Reduced likelihood of catalyst-related diagnostic faults
The current SOUL product page does not specify the catalyst cell count or supplier, so DasMotoring does not advertise one.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT:
During SOUL's original Trackback development testing, the test vehicle did not produce a check engine light.
However, SOUL explicitly states that it does not guarantee the same result on every vehicle.
This is particularly important for the catless configuration because removing the factory catalytic converters alters the vehicle's catalyst-monitoring environment.
Individual results can vary depending on:
ECU software version
Oxygen-sensor condition
Vehicle calibration
Other modifications
Vehicle-to-vehicle diagnostic tolerances
ECU TUNING:
An ECU tune is not required for the Trackback to physically install.
However, custom calibration may be appropriate for:
Catalyst-related CEL management on catless cars
Optimizing performance
Higher boost targets
Modified turbocharger configurations
Additional supporting modifications
SOUL also notes that additional performance can be extracted when the freer-flowing exhaust is paired with appropriate software.
27-LB WEIGHT REDUCTION:
SOUL's published lightweight Trackback configuration weighs approximately:
12 lbs / 5.4 kg
compared with approximately:
39 lbs / 17.7 kg
for the corresponding factory components.
Weight Savings: approximately 27 lbs / 12.2 kg
This represents roughly a:
69% reduction
in the weight of the exhaust components being replaced.
Because this weight is removed from the extreme rear of the 911, it is particularly attractive for track-oriented and lightweight builds.
The 27-lb figure applies to SOUL's lightweight Trackback reference configuration and should not be assumed for every catted and tip combination.
RETAINS FACTORY TURBO HEAT SHIELDS:
Despite the Trackback's minimalist architecture, SOUL deliberately retains Porsche's factory turbocharger heat shields.
This preserves important thermal protection around:
Turbochargers
Wiring
Hoses
Engine-bay components
Adjacent heat-sensitive hardware
This is especially important on a track-focused exhaust where turbine and exhaust temperatures can remain elevated for extended periods.
.065-INCH T304L STAINLESS CONSTRUCTION:
The main exhaust assemblies are fabricated from:
.065-inch-wall T304L stainless steel
using smooth mandrel bends.
This provides:
High-temperature durability
Corrosion resistance
Structural strength
Consistent exhaust geometry
Long service life
321 STAINLESS EXHAUST TIPS:
SOUL specifies 321 stainless steel for the exhaust tips.
321 stainless is particularly well suited to high-temperature applications and complements the exhaust's track-focused design.
WATERJET-CUT FLANGES:
The Trackback uses thick flanges precision cut by waterjet.
These flanges are designed to maintain:
Proper sealing
Alignment
Structural durability
Consistent turbo-to-exhaust connection geometry
DIRECT BOLT-ON INSTALLATION:
The system is designed as a direct bolt-on replacement.
SOUL supplies:
Two Trackback pipe assemblies
Required installation hardware
Installation instructions
Each assembly is fixture-tested before shipment to verify fitment.
There is no need for cutting or welding during normal installation.
EXHAUST TIP OPTIONS:
SOUL currently offers five tip configurations.
3" Turn Down
The lightest and most competition-oriented configuration.
The outlets terminate downward rather than extending rearward through traditional large exhaust tips.
This option is especially appropriate for:
Track cars
Maximum weight reduction
Minimalist appearance
Directing exhaust flow downward
4" Slash Cut Single Wall
Large single-wall outlets with an angled cut for a more aggressive appearance.
4" Straight Cut Single Wall
Large single-wall outlets with a traditional straight termination.
4" Double Wall
Larger premium double-wall tips for a more substantial finished appearance.
4" Satin Black Double Wall
The darkest and most visually aggressive option, with a Satin Black finish and double-wall construction.

EMISSIONS / COMPETITION USE NOTE:
The catless Trackback configuration removes the vehicle's factory catalytic converters.
SOUL states that the system is not CARB certified and may not be legal for use on emissions-controlled vehicles.
Catless configurations are intended for off-road / competition use only.
Customers are responsible for determining compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations for their selected configuration.
Product Description
The SOUL Sport Headers are a direct bolt-on performance upgrade for the 2017–2019 Porsche 991.2 Carrera platform, engineered to improve exhaust flow into the turbochargers, sharpen boost response, increase power, reduce weight, and enhance the sound of Porsche's turbocharged 3.0L flat-six.
Unlike the factory double-wall exhaust manifolds, SOUL uses a single-wall T304L stainless-steel design with optimized runners and a purpose-built 3-into-1 merge collector. The revised geometry improves exhaust-gas velocity as the three cylinders on each bank converge before entering the turbocharger.
SOUL also increases the header outlet diameter from approximately 1.54 inches at the factory turbo inlet interface to 1.63 inches, providing a smoother transition into the turbocharger.
The complete SOUL header set weighs approximately 9.9 lbs, compared with approximately 15.3 lbs for the corresponding factory components, reducing weight by approximately 5.4 lbs / 2.4 kg.
These headers fit both PSE and non-PSE 991.2 Carrera models, making them a shared performance component across the entire turbocharged 991.2 Carrera range.

OPTIMIZED 3-INTO-1 MERGE COLLECTOR:
Each bank of Porsche's 3.0L flat-six feeds three cylinders into a turbocharger.
SOUL redesigned the way those three exhaust runners converge by incorporating an optimized 3-into-1 merge collector.
The objective is to maintain exhaust-gas velocity as the individual runners transition into the turbocharger inlet.
Improved collector geometry can help provide:
Faster turbo response
Improved throttle response
Stronger transient response
More usable power before a transmission downshift
Improved power throughout the RPM range
This is particularly useful on a turbocharged engine because the energy and velocity of the exhaust gases entering the turbine directly influence turbocharger response.
FACTORY HEADER RESTRICTION:
SOUL identified several limitations in the original Porsche manifold design.
One notable restriction is an internal support structure in the factory middle runner.
That obstruction sits directly in the exhaust stream and interrupts what would otherwise be a smoother path from the cylinder head toward the collector and turbocharger.
SOUL eliminates this obstruction and redesigns the runner and collector architecture around performance rather than mass-production constraints.
1.63-INCH HEADER OUTLET:
SOUL measured the factory turbocharger inlet at approximately:
1.54 inches inside diameter
The SOUL header outlet is approximately:
1.63 inches inside diameter
This slightly larger header outlet provides a smoother transition into the turbocharger and allows the header's internal volume and collector geometry to better complement the turbocharger's airflow requirements.
IMPROVED BOOST RESPONSE:
The Sport Headers are not designed solely around peak horsepower.
SOUL specifically focused on improving boost and transient response.
By improving:
Runner geometry
Collector design
Exhaust-gas velocity
Flow into the turbine
the turbochargers can respond more quickly when additional engine load is commanded.
The practical effect is intended to be a car that feels more responsive before a downshift or major RPM change is required.
DYNO-TESTED PERFORMANCE:
SOUL performed independent Mustang-dyno testing at Apex Autoworks.
The test vehicle was a 991.2 Carrera Base already equipped with:
SOUL Sport Catalytic Converters
SOUL Performance Exhaust
COBB Accessport Stage 2 calibration
The header comparison consisted of:
3 before runs
and
6 after runs
with the representative curves averaged for comparison.
SOUL recorded maximum improvements of approximately:
+12 wheel horsepower
and
+20 lb-ft of torque
after adding the Sport Headers.
SOUL notes that these gains appeared quickly in the power curve and continued through redline.
IMPORTANT DYNO CONTEXT:
The published +12 whp / +20 lb-ft figures should not be interpreted as guaranteed gains on an otherwise-stock 991.2 Carrera.
The test vehicle already had:
Sport Catalytic Converters
Performance Exhaust
COBB Stage 2 ECU calibration
Those components remained constant during the before-and-after header testing, so the published result demonstrates the incremental benefit of the headers within that modified configuration.
Actual gains will depend on:
Carrera model
ECU calibration
Fuel
Catalytic-converter configuration
Rear exhaust
Turbocharger configuration
Ambient conditions
Dyno type
ADDITIONAL TUNING POTENTIAL:
SOUL notes that a custom calibration can take further advantage of the increased exhaust flow provided by the headers.
Because the headers improve exhaust delivery into the turbochargers, additional calibration can potentially optimize:
Boost response
Load targets
Ignition strategy
Torque delivery
Overall power
A custom tune is not required simply because the Sport Headers are installed.
SINGLE-WALL CONSTRUCTION:
Porsche uses a double-wall factory manifold.
SOUL replaces it with a single-wall stainless-steel design.
In addition to contributing to the weight reduction, the single-wall construction allows more of the exhaust's acoustic character to pass through the system.
SOUL describes the resulting sound as:
Sharper
More defined
More aggressive
More turbo-focused
while avoiding undesirable exhaust characteristics during normal operation.
INCREASED TURBO SOUND:
The Sport Headers increase the audible character of the turbochargers.
Expect more:
Turbo spool
Turbine sound
Exhaust texture
Mechanical character
Throttle-related sound
The change becomes increasingly noticeable when the headers are combined with freer-flowing catalytic converters or rear exhaust components.
POPS & BURBLES:
SOUL also notes an increase in:
Pops during shifts
Burbling during deceleration
Sharper transient exhaust sounds
The amount of this behavior will depend heavily on the vehicle's ECU calibration and selected driving mode.
The headers themselves do not create artificial pops; rather, their freer-flowing and single-wall construction allows more of the existing engine and calibration behavior to be heard.
SOUND WITH FACTORY EXHAUST:
When paired with factory catalytic converters and the factory rear exhaust, the Sport Headers provide a relatively subtle but meaningful sound change.
Expect:
Sharper tone
Slight increase in overall volume
More audible turbocharger activity
Greater engine character under load
Improved response without dramatically changing cruising behavior
This is the most conservative configuration.
WITH SOUL SPORT CATALYTIC CONVERTERS:
Pairing the Sport Headers with SOUL Sport Catalytic Converters creates a significantly freer-flowing exhaust path upstream and downstream of the turbochargers.
The combination provides:
Improved pre-turbo exhaust flow
Reduced post-turbo catalyst restriction
Faster boost response
Increased turbo sound
Greater exhaust volume
Increased power potential
The Sport Catalytic Converters retain a catted configuration.
WITH SOUL CAT BYPASS PIPES:
Combining the Sport Headers with Cat Bypass Pipes removes post-turbo catalyst restriction entirely.
This creates a considerably more aggressive configuration with:
Maximum post-turbo exhaust flow
Stronger turbocharger sound
Greater exhaust volume
Reduced exhaust-system weight
Increased tuning potential
Catless components introduce separate emissions and diagnostic considerations that do not result from the Sport Headers themselves.
WITH SOUL VALVED EXHAUST:
For PSE-equipped cars, combining the headers with SOUL's Valved Exhaust provides:
Improved exhaust flow into the turbochargers
Full 3-inch valves-open rear exhaust architecture
Chambered X-pipe
Increased turbo and exhaust sound
Retained active sound control
Resonated quieter secondary exhaust path
This provides significantly more sound and flow while retaining useful street-driving flexibility.
WITH SOUL X-PIPE EXHAUST:
Pairing the headers with SOUL's non-valved X-Pipe creates a more consistently aggressive configuration.
The combination provides:
Improved pre-turbo flow
Full 3-inch rear exhaust path
Chambered X-pipe
Helmholtz anti-drone system
Increased turbo sound
Increased exhaust volume at all times
Greater exhaust-system weight reduction
5.4-LB WEIGHT REDUCTION:
SOUL publishes the following weights:
Factory Headers:
Approximately 15.3 lbs
SOUL Sport Headers:
Approximately 9.9 lbs
Weight Savings:
Approximately 5.4 lbs / 2.4 kg
That represents approximately a 35% reduction in the weight of the components being replaced.
.065-INCH T304L STAINLESS CONSTRUCTION:
SOUL manufactures each set from:
Mandrel-bent .065-inch-wall T304L stainless steel
This material provides:
High-temperature durability
Corrosion resistance
Structural strength
Consistent wall thickness
Long-term reliability
BACK-PURGED TIG WELDING:
The headers are TIG welded while being back purged with argon.
Back purging protects the interior of the stainless tubing during welding and helps ensure:
Proper weld penetration
Reduced internal oxidation
Smooth internal weld quality
Long-term weld durability
SOUL specifically uses ARCAL Prime argon gas during fabrication.
HEAVY-GAUGE FABRICATION FIXTURES:
SOUL fabricates the headers in thick-gauge aluminum fixtures.
These fixtures serve two purposes:
Maintain precise component positioning
Act as heat sinks during welding
Controlling heat during fabrication reduces the potential for warping and helps maintain consistent fitment from one header set to the next.
OEM PORSCHE GASKETS INCLUDED:
SOUL includes:
New high-grade mounting hardware
OEM Porsche exhaust gaskets
with each header set.
This allows the headers to be installed without requiring the customer to separately source normal replacement sealing hardware.
DIRECT BOLT-ON INSTALLATION:
The Sport Headers are designed as direct replacements for the factory manifolds.
Every assembly is:
Quality checked
Fixture tested
Foam packed prior to shipment
No permanent chassis or exhaust modification is required.
PSE & NON-PSE COMPATIBILITY:
Unlike several downstream 991.2 exhaust components, the Sport Headers are not specific to Porsche Sport Exhaust.
The same header set fits:
991.2 Carrera with PSE
and
991.2 Carrera without PSE
This is because the PSE/non-PSE differences occur farther downstream in the exhaust system.
The header architecture at the engine and turbocharger interface remains compatible with both configurations.
EMISSIONS CONFIGURATION:
The Sport Headers themselves do not replace the catalytic converters.
When installed with the factory catalysts, the vehicle retains its existing catalytic-converter assemblies and oxygen-sensor architecture.
If the headers are paired with separate Sport Catalytic Converters or Cat Bypass Pipes, emissions compliance should be evaluated based on the complete installed configuration.
Product Description
The SOUL Cat Bypass Pipes are a direct bolt-on performance upgrade for 2017–2019 Porsche 991.2 Carrera models equipped with Porsche Sport Exhaust / PSE, replacing the restrictive factory catalytic converters with large-diameter 3-inch straight-through stainless-steel pipes.
Positioned immediately downstream of the turbochargers, the factory catalytic converters create a significant restriction in the 991.2 Carrera exhaust system. Removing them reduces post-turbine backpressure, increases exhaust-flow capacity, sharpens throttle response, and dramatically increases turbocharger and exhaust sound.
SOUL engineered the Cat Bypass Pipes specifically around the factory PSE architecture. With the exhaust valves open, gases receive a straight-through 3-inch path designed for maximum flow. SOUL also carefully positions the secondary connection to the factory Porsche Sport Exhaust so the car remains significantly more subdued with the valves closed.
Independent Dynojet testing by AWE Tuning on an otherwise stock 2017 Carrera 4S recorded maximum gains of approximately 20 wheel horsepower and 21 lb-ft of torque at 5,800 RPM, with peak-output gains of approximately 10 whp and 14 lb-ft.
The SOUL assemblies weigh only approximately 7.9 lbs, compared with approximately 16 lbs for the corresponding factory catalytic-converter components, saving approximately 8.1 lbs / 3.7 kg.

3-INCH STRAIGHT-THROUGH DESIGN:
SOUL selected:
3-inch-diameter piping
for the Cat Bypass Pipes to maximize available exhaust flow downstream of the turbochargers.
With the PSE valves open, the Cat Bypass Pipes provide a direct, straight-through route into the factory Porsche Sport Exhaust.
Removing the catalyst substrate eliminates one of the largest restrictions in the post-turbo exhaust system.
Benefits include:
Reduced exhaust restriction
Greater exhaust-flow capacity
Improved turbocharger sound
Greater exhaust volume
Sharper throttle response
Increased power potential
Improved compatibility with higher-output ECU calibrations
POST-TURBO BACKPRESSURE REDUCTION:
On a turbocharged engine, reducing restriction downstream of the turbine can be particularly beneficial.
The turbine must exhaust spent gases into the exhaust system after extracting energy to drive the compressor.
Reducing downstream restriction helps reduce the pressure the turbine must work against.
The SOUL Cat Bypass Pipes therefore target one of the most restrictive sections of the 991.2 Carrera exhaust system—the catalytic converters immediately downstream of the turbochargers.
DYNO-TESTED PERFORMANCE:
SOUL worked with AWE Tuning to independently dyno test its development car.
The test vehicle was a:
2017 Porsche 991.2 Carrera 4S
with:
No other modifications
SOUL reports maximum gains of approximately:
+20 wheel horsepower
and
+21 lb-ft of torque
at approximately:
5,800 RPM
At peak output, SOUL reports approximately:
+10 wheel horsepower
and
+14 lb-ft of torque
compared with the stock catalytic converters.
This makes the Cat Bypass Pipes one of the 991.2 Carrera products for which SOUL provides a controlled, hardware-only before-and-after performance comparison.
MAXIMUM GAIN VS. PEAK GAIN:
The two published sets of numbers describe different points on the dyno graph.
Maximum Difference Between Curves:
+20 whp
+21 lb-ft
Occurs around 5,800 RPM
Difference at Peak Output:
Approximately +10 whp
Approximately +14 lb-ft
The larger 20-whp figure therefore should not be described as a 20-whp increase in peak horsepower.
It represents the maximum improvement between the stock and modified power curves at a particular engine speed.
TUNED PERFORMANCE POTENTIAL:
SOUL also references a separately modified Carrera tested by BoostAddict.
That vehicle increased from approximately:
344 whp / 326 lb-ft
to:
455 whp / 448 lb-ft
with:
SOUL Cat Bypass Pipes
Race-gas ECU calibration
Those figures demonstrate the airflow potential available when the Cat Bypass Pipes are incorporated into a more aggressive tuned configuration.
They should not be interpreted as the power increase produced by the Cat Bypass Pipes alone.
The appropriate hardware-only result remains SOUL's approximately +20 whp / +21 lb-ft maximum differential from the otherwise-stock 2017 Carrera 4S test.
THROTTLE RESPONSE:
SOUL specifically identifies improved throttle response as one of the most noticeable performance benefits.
Reducing restriction immediately after the turbochargers allows the engine and turbo system to respond more freely to changes in throttle demand.
Drivers can expect:
Sharper engine response
More immediate turbo sound
Stronger midrange acceleration
Increased sensation of engine performance
Actual response will vary with vehicle model, transmission, calibration, and other modifications.
DRAMATICALLY INCREASED TURBO SOUND:
Removing the factory catalytic converters allows considerably more turbine sound to escape through the exhaust.
Expect a substantial increase in:
Turbo spool sound
Turbo whistle
Turbine-related exhaust noise
Throttle-related acoustic feedback
Deceleration crackles
Overall engine character
The effect is considerably greater than what can typically be achieved by changing only the rear muffler.
EXHAUST SOUND:
The Cat Bypass Pipes substantially change the character of the turbocharged 991.2 Carrera.
With PSE open, expect:
Dramatically increased turbocharger sound
Increased exhaust volume
Stronger acceleration tone
More pronounced pops and crackles
More aggressive Sport / Sport Plus character
Greater mechanical presence
Stronger throttle-related response
Removing the catalyst substrate also makes downstream exhaust changes significantly more noticeable.
RETAINS FACTORY PSE FUNCTIONALITY:
Although the catalytic converters are removed, the factory Porsche Sport Exhaust system remains downstream.
The original:
PSE mufflers
Exhaust valves
PSE button
Porsche valve-control logic
continue to function normally when the factory rear exhaust is retained.
SOUL specifically designed the Cat Bypass Pipes around this dual-mode architecture.
PSE OPEN:
With the exhaust valves open, SOUL provides a straight-through 3-inch flow path designed to maximize performance and sound.
This configuration produces the strongest:
Turbo sound
Exhaust volume
Crackles and pops
Performance character
High-load exhaust flow
SOUL specifically states that maximum valves-open flow was a key design goal.
PSE CLOSED:
SOUL also positioned the secondary tubing into the Porsche Sport Exhaust to maintain a more civil and refined valves-closed character.
With PSE closed, expect:
Significantly reduced exhaust volume compared with PSE open
More subdued turbo and exhaust sound
Better neighborhood usability
Improved cruising refinement
Retention of meaningful sound control despite catalyst removal
This gives a catless car considerably more flexibility than a fully open, non-valved exhaust configuration.
8.1-LB WEIGHT REDUCTION:
SOUL publishes the following weights:
Factory Catalytic-Converter Components:
Approximately 16 lbs
SOUL Cat Bypass Pipes:
Approximately 7.9 lbs
Weight Savings:
Approximately 8.1 lbs / 3.7 kg
That represents a reduction of approximately:
51%
from the components being replaced.
RETAINS FACTORY TURBO HEAT SHIELDS:
SOUL deliberately designed the Cat Bypass Pipes to retain Porsche's original turbocharger heat shields.
This preserves the factory heat-management strategy around:
Turbochargers
Engine-bay components
Wiring
Hoses
Adjacent components exposed to post-turbo exhaust heat
This is particularly important because exhaust temperatures can remain extremely high even after the catalytic converters have been removed.
.065-INCH T304L STAINLESS CONSTRUCTION:
Each Cat Bypass Pipe is fabricated from:
.065-inch-wall T304L stainless steel
with smooth mandrel bends and substantial flanges.
This construction provides:
High-temperature resistance
Corrosion resistance
Structural strength
Consistent internal geometry
Long-term durability
Each assembly undergoes SOUL's in-house quality-control process before shipment.
DIRECT BOLT-ON INSTALLATION:
The Cat Bypass Pipes directly replace the original Porsche catalytic-converter assemblies.
Each set is fixture-tested before shipment to verify proper fitment.
SOUL includes:
Required installation hardware
Detailed installation instructions
The installation is designed to be manageable for experienced DIY enthusiasts with the appropriate tools and mechanical experience.
WITH FACTORY PSE REAR EXHAUST:
Pairing the Cat Bypass Pipes with the factory rear exhaust provides:
Major increase in turbocharger sound
Increased exhaust volume
Measurable power gains
Retained Porsche exhaust valves
Retained PSE sound control
Factory rear-muffler appearance
This is a relatively simple way to significantly change the character and performance of a PSE-equipped 991.2 Carrera.
WITH SOUL VALVED EXHAUST:
Combining the Cat Bypass Pipes with SOUL's Valved Exhaust creates a substantially higher-flowing system while preserving active sound control.
This combination provides:
3-inch Cat Bypass Pipes
3-inch valves-open rear X-pipe
Reduced post-turbo restriction
Significantly increased turbo sound
Aggressive exhaust volume
Factory-controlled valve functionality
Resonated quieter secondary rear-exhaust path
The complete system will be substantially louder than the Valved Exhaust with factory catalytic converters.
WITH SOUL X-PIPE EXHAUST:
Combining the Cat Bypass Pipes with SOUL's non-valved X-Pipe creates an especially aggressive exhaust configuration.
This combines:
Catless 3-inch post-turbo piping
Non-valved 3-inch rear exhaust
Chambered X-pipe
Helmholtz anti-drone architecture
Maximum consistent exhaust presence
Reduced rear exhaust-system weight
Because there is no dedicated quiet rear-exhaust path, this combination will provide substantially more constant exhaust volume than the Valved system.
CAT BYPASS PIPES VS. SPORT CATALYTIC CONVERTERS:
SOUL Cat Bypass Pipes
$1,795.00
Completely catless
3-inch piping
Maximum manufacturer-tested gain of +20 whp / +21 lb-ft
Approximately 8.1 lbs lighter than factory
Maximum turbocharger sound
Greater exhaust volume
May trigger a check engine light
More competition-focused configuration
SOUL Sport Catalytic Converters
$3,715.00
Retain high-flow catalytic converters
Manufacturer-tested maximum gain of approximately +14 whp / +15 lb-ft
Approximately 3.2 lbs lighter than factory
Increased turbo and exhaust sound
Developed to avoid catalyst-related check engine lights
More street-oriented configuration
For customers prioritizing maximum flow, sound, weight reduction, and value, the Cat Bypass Pipes are the more aggressive option.
For customers wanting increased performance while retaining catalytic converters, the Sport Catalytic Converters are the more appropriate configuration.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT:
Because the Cat Bypass Pipes completely remove the factory catalytic converters, the vehicle's catalyst-monitoring system may identify that the original emissions equipment is no longer functioning as expected.
SOUL explicitly states that this product:
may trigger a check engine light.
SOUL recommends a suitable custom ECU calibration to disable catalyst-related faults for closed-course use.
A tune is not required for the Cat Bypass Pipes to physically bolt onto the vehicle, but should be considered when catalyst-related CEL management is necessary.
ECU TUNING:
The Cat Bypass Pipes can be mechanically installed on an otherwise-stock car.
However, an appropriate ECU calibration can provide two additional benefits:
Manage catalyst-related diagnostic faults
Take greater advantage of the increased exhaust-flow capability
SOUL's hardware-only dyno results were obtained without other modifications, demonstrating that the pipes themselves can provide measurable gains.
More aggressive tuned results should always be evaluated in the context of the complete vehicle setup, fuel, and calibration.
EMISSIONS / COMPETITION USE NOTE:
The SOUL Cat Bypass Pipes completely remove the factory catalytic converters.
This product is not CARB certified and is intended for off-road / competition use only.
Use on an emissions-controlled vehicle operated on public roads may violate federal, state, or local laws.
Customers are responsible for determining legal compliance for their vehicle and intended use.
Product Description
The SOUL X-Pipe Exhaust is a non-valved rear exhaust system designed specifically for 2017–2019 Porsche 991.2 Carrera models equipped with Porsche Sport Exhaust / PSE.
SOUL replaces the restrictive factory PSE rear muffler with a full 3-inch chambered X-pipe, blending the exhaust streams from both cylinder banks to produce a smoother, higher-pitched tone while maintaining a large, unrestricted primary flow path.
Unlike the factory PSE system—and unlike SOUL's Valved Exhaust System—this X-Pipe uses its performance exhaust path all the time. The factory secondary muffled flow path is eliminated, while that available space is repurposed into an extended Helmholtz chamber engineered to reduce undesirable low-RPM drone.
The result is a significantly more aggressive and consistent turbocharged flat-six soundtrack without simply turning the exhaust into an unrefined straight-pipe system.
At approximately 16.2 lbs, the SOUL X-Pipe also removes approximately 6.8 lbs / 3 kg compared with the 23-lb factory PSE rear exhaust.

FULL 3-INCH FLOW PATH:
The defining performance feature of the SOUL X-Pipe is its:
3-inch primary exhaust architecture
The factory exhaust must balance sound reduction, packaging requirements, valve operation, and production constraints.
SOUL instead prioritizes the primary performance route.
The larger 3-inch path provides increased exhaust-flow capacity for the turbocharged 3.0L flat-six and maintains that large effective diameter through the rear exhaust architecture.
This becomes increasingly valuable as engine airflow increases through modifications such as:
ECU tuning
Sport Catalytic Converters
Cat Bypass Pipes
Sport Headers
Other supporting performance modifications
CHAMBERED X-PIPE:
SOUL's design does more than simply connect the left and right exhaust banks with conventional tubing.
The system incorporates a purpose-designed chambered X-pipe that allows the exhaust streams from both cylinder banks to blend.
The design is intended to provide:
Smoother exhaust-pulse interaction
More cohesive flat-six sound
Higher-pitched character under load
Improved exhaust-flow potential
Greater exhaust-gas velocity
Less of the disconnected tone associated with the factory primary exhaust path
Importantly, SOUL designed the mixing chamber so the exhaust does not have to neck down substantially while the two banks blend.
NON-VALVED DESIGN:
This system is intentionally non-valved.
The factory PSE rear exhaust uses valves to switch between different exhaust-flow paths.
The SOUL X-Pipe removes that dual-path rear muffler architecture and provides its freer-flowing 3-inch performance path continuously.
That means there is no selectable quiet exhaust route within the SOUL X-Pipe itself.
For customers prioritizing:
Maximum consistent sound
Simpler exhaust architecture
Lower weight
Maximum primary-path flow
the non-valved X-Pipe is the more aggressive choice.
Customers who want to retain active exhaust-volume control should instead consider SOUL's Valved Exhaust System.
HELMHOLTZ ANTI-DRONE CHAMBER:
Simply eliminating the secondary exhaust path would increase sound, but could also increase undesirable low-frequency cabin resonance.
SOUL therefore repurposes the unused secondary-flow architecture into a lengthy Helmholtz chamber.
Rather than carrying the main exhaust stream, the Helmholtz chamber is acoustically tuned to interact with undesirable pressure waves in the exhaust system.
This helps reduce:
Low-RPM drone
Low-frequency cabin resonance
Booming during normal cruising
without requiring the primary 3-inch exhaust gases to pass through an additional conventional muffler.
WHY A HELMHOLTZ CHAMBER?
Traditional resonators and mufflers generally reduce sound by placing additional sound-attenuating structures directly in the exhaust flow.
A properly tuned Helmholtz chamber instead targets a specific frequency range while functioning as a side branch of the main exhaust path.
This allows SOUL to maintain:
Full 3-inch primary exhaust flow
while still addressing the frequencies most likely to become objectionable during normal street driving.
MORE SOUND ALL THE TIME:
Because the X-Pipe is non-valved, the car does not transition between a dedicated quiet path and performance path.
Expect:
More exhaust presence during normal driving
Increased idle character
Greater low- and midrange sound
Stronger throttle-related exhaust response
More turbocharger sound
Greater high-RPM volume
More pronounced pops and burbles when produced by the vehicle's calibration
Consistent exhaust character regardless of factory exhaust-valve position
The system is substantially more performance-oriented than the factory PSE rear muffler while still incorporating acoustic engineering to manage low-RPM drone.
SOUND CHARACTER:
SOUL specifically developed the X-Pipe to move away from the relatively muted and unblended character of the factory PSE system.
The expected sound profile is:
Smoother
Higher-pitched under load
More cohesive between cylinder banks
Louder than stock
More expressive through the rev range
More aggressive during acceleration
More pronounced during shifts and deceleration
More representative of the 3.0L turbocharged flat-six
The X-pipe affects tone, while removing the secondary flow path increases volume.
LOW-RPM DRONE CONTROL:
A major challenge with a non-valved rear exhaust is balancing increased exterior sound with acceptable interior refinement.
SOUL specifically developed the long Helmholtz chamber to keep low-RPM drone at what it considers reasonable levels.
This is particularly important during:
Highway cruising
Steady-state driving
PDK operation at lower engine speeds
Long-distance street use
SOUL states that even its development car fitted with upgraded headers and Sport Catalytic Converters remained suitable for street driving with this X-Pipe.
DEVELOPED WITH HIGHER-FLOW COMPONENTS:
The X-Pipe was not developed solely around an otherwise-stock exhaust configuration.
SOUL's development vehicle incorporated upgraded:
Headers
Catalytic converters
This allowed SOUL to evaluate the rear exhaust under a significantly higher-flow and louder upstream configuration.
That is useful for customers planning a staged build because the Helmholtz architecture was developed with additional exhaust modifications in mind.
WITH FACTORY CATALYTIC CONVERTERS:
Installed behind the original Porsche catalytic converters, the X-Pipe provides:
Larger downstream exhaust flow
Increased exhaust volume
Smoother X-pipe tone
Reduced rear-exhaust weight
Retained factory catalysts
Retained factory oxygen-sensor architecture
This is the simplest configuration for customers primarily looking for additional sound from an otherwise-stock PSE-equipped 991.2.
WITH SOUL SPORT CATALYTIC CONVERTERS:
Pairing the X-Pipe with SOUL Sport Catalytic Converters increases exhaust flow closer to the turbochargers while retaining a catted configuration.
The combination provides:
Increased turbocharger sound
Greater overall exhaust volume
Reduced catalyst restriction
Increased throttle response
Dyno-proven gains from the Sport Catalytic Converters
Full 3-inch rear exhaust path
More aggressive overall character
Because the X-Pipe has no quieter valve-controlled path, customers should expect the acoustic difference from the Sport Catalytic Converters to be present continuously.
WITH SOUL CAT BYPASS PIPES:
Combining the X-Pipe with Cat Bypass Pipes creates a substantially more aggressive configuration.
Removing the catalytic converters will further increase:
Exhaust volume
Turbocharger sound
Exhaust flow
Pops and burbles
Raw turbocharged engine character
This combination is considerably louder than the X-Pipe with factory or Sport catalytic converters and introduces separate emissions and diagnostic considerations.
WITH SOUL SPORT HEADERS:
SOUL Sport Headers address exhaust flow upstream of the turbochargers, while the X-Pipe addresses flow and sound downstream.
A more comprehensive configuration can therefore combine:
Sport Headers + Sport Catalytic Converters + X-Pipe Exhaust
for increased airflow across multiple sections of the exhaust system.
The X-Pipe's Helmholtz chamber remains useful as upstream components increase overall sound output.
6.8-LB WEIGHT REDUCTION:
SOUL publishes the following weights:
Factory PSE Rear Exhaust:
Approximately 23 lbs / 10.4 kg
SOUL X-Pipe Exhaust:
Approximately 16.2 lbs / 7.3 kg
Weight Savings:
Approximately 6.8 lbs / 3 kg
That represents a reduction of approximately:
30%
from the rear exhaust assembly being replaced.
The X-Pipe also saves approximately 3.8 lbs more than SOUL's Valved Exhaust System.
.065-INCH T304L STAINLESS CONSTRUCTION:
The system is manufactured from:
.065-inch-wall T304L stainless steel
This material provides:
High-temperature durability
Corrosion resistance
Structural strength
Consistent fabrication
Long service life
Each assembly undergoes SOUL's in-house quality-control process before shipment.
BOLT-ON INSTALLATION:
Each X-Pipe is built and tested in a dedicated fixture before shipment to verify proper fitment.
SOUL includes the necessary installation hardware.
The system replaces the factory PSE rear exhaust without changing the vehicle's:
Headers
Catalytic converters
Turbochargers
Oxygen sensors
unless those components are being upgraded separately.
PERFORMANCE:
The full 3-inch architecture provides greater exhaust-flow potential than the factory rear muffler.
SOUL specifically describes the system as maintaining full diameter through the X-pipe mixing section for optimal exhaust velocity and performance potential.
However, SOUL does not currently publish a controlled standalone horsepower or torque result for the X-Pipe Exhaust itself.
DasMotoring therefore does not advertise a specific numerical power increase from this component alone.
X-PIPE VS. SOUL VALVED EXHAUST:
SOUL X-Pipe Exhaust
$2,495.00
Non-valved
Full 3-inch primary path at all times
Chambered X-pipe
Lengthy Helmholtz anti-drone chamber
Maximum consistent sound
Approximately 16.2 lbs
Saves approximately 6.8 lbs
Simpler and lighter architecture
Best suited to customers who do not need a dedicated quiet mode
SOUL Valved Exhaust System
$3,795.00
Retains active exhaust-valve functionality
3-inch primary X-pipe path
Separate 1.75-inch quieter secondary path
Dual secondary resonators
Driver-variable exhaust character through factory PSE operation
Approximately 20 lbs
Saves approximately 3 lbs
Better suited to owners prioritizing greater street flexibility
The two systems share the same general goal of improving the tone and flow of the 991.2 Carrera but prioritize different levels of sound control.
EXHAUST TIPS:
The SOUL X-Pipe is sold as a single rear-exhaust configuration.
There are no tip-style or tip-finish selections attached to this product SKU.
SOUL offers separate bolt-on exhaust tips for the 991.2 Carrera with PSE, allowing customers to choose their visible exhaust-tip configuration independently from the rear exhaust system.
EMISSIONS:
The X-Pipe replaces the rear muffler assembly downstream of the catalytic converters and oxygen sensors.
When used with the factory catalytic converters, it does not itself remove the vehicle's factory emissions-control hardware.
Emissions and diagnostic considerations can change when the system is combined with separate Cat Bypass Pipes or other emissions-related components.
Product Description
The SOUL Valved Exhaust System is a complete rear exhaust upgrade for 2017–2019 Porsche 991.2 Carrera models equipped with Porsche Sport Exhaust / PSE, engineered to dramatically improve the sound of the turbocharged 3.0L flat-six while retaining the everyday usability and factory-controlled valve functionality of the original Porsche system.
SOUL developed the exhaust around two distinct flow paths. With the valves open, exhaust flows through a large 3-inch chambered X-pipe, blending the two cylinder banks for a smoother, higher-pitched exhaust note while maximizing available exhaust flow. With the valves closed, exhaust is redirected through a smaller 1.75-inch secondary path incorporating two large resonators, substantially reducing sound level and low-RPM drone for comfortable cruising.
The system integrates with the factory Porsche Sport Exhaust controls, allowing Porsche's original PSE programming to continue managing valve operation based on the selected driving mode and operating conditions.
At approximately 20 lbs, the SOUL system is also approximately 3 lbs / 1.3 kg lighter than the 23-lb factory rear exhaust.

DUAL-FLOW EXHAUST DESIGN:
The defining feature of SOUL's Valved Exhaust System is its use of two purpose-built exhaust paths.
Rather than simply placing valves inside an otherwise conventional muffler, SOUL designed separate flow strategies for aggressive and subdued operation.
Valves Open:
Exhaust flows through the large 3-inch chambered X-pipe, prioritizing maximum sound and flow.
Valves Closed:
Exhaust is redirected through a 1.75-inch secondary path containing two large resonators, significantly reducing sound level and low-RPM resonance.
This gives the car a genuine change in character rather than simply a small change in exhaust volume.
3-INCH PRIMARY FLOW PATH:
With the valves open, the SOUL system provides a full:
3-inch primary exhaust path
through the chambered X-pipe.
The larger flow path is designed to reduce downstream restriction and maximize flow potential from the turbocharged engine.
This becomes increasingly useful as airflow demand increases through modifications such as:
ECU tuning
Sport catalytic converters
Cat bypass pipes
Sport headers
Upgraded turbochargers
Even on an otherwise stock car, the larger X-pipe architecture significantly changes the character of the factory exhaust.
CHAMBERED X-PIPE:
The factory PSE architecture does relatively little to blend the exhaust pulses from the opposing cylinder banks when operating through its primary flow path.
SOUL replaces this arrangement with a purpose-designed chambered X-pipe.
The X-pipe allows the two exhaust streams to interact and blend before exiting the vehicle.
SOUL developed the design to produce:
Smoother exhaust character
Higher-pitched tone under load
Better cylinder-bank blending
Increased exhaust-flow capability
More pronounced turbocharged flat-six character
The chamber itself is designed to blend the streams without substantially reducing the effective diameter of the primary exhaust path.
VALVES OPEN:
With the factory PSE valves commanded open, exhaust is directed through the unrestricted 3-inch primary X-pipe path.
Expect:
Significantly greater exhaust volume than stock
Richer and more robust exhaust tone
Smoother cylinder-bank blending
Higher-pitched character under load
Greater turbocharged flat-six presence
More pronounced turbo spool and exhaust sound
Dramatic full-throttle character
Stronger pops and burbles in Sport mode
Increased acoustic response to throttle input
SOUL specifically developed the system to provide significantly more character than the original PSE exhaust without making the car unnecessarily aggressive for street use.
VALVES CLOSED:
SOUL put substantial engineering effort into making the quieter mode meaningfully different from the aggressive valves-open mode.
When the valves close, exhaust is redirected through a:
1.75-inch secondary flow path
containing:
Two large resonators
The reduced-diameter secondary path limits overall sound, while the resonators further suppress undesirable frequencies.
Expect:
Significantly lower exterior volume
Reduced low-RPM exhaust presence
Reduced cabin drone
More civilized everyday operation
Comfortable highway cruising
Meaningful separation from the valves-open sound
Improved flow compared with the factory rear muffler despite the quieter configuration
This allows the car to remain understated when desired while keeping the more dramatic valves-open character immediately available.
DUAL RESONATOR SYSTEM:
Packaging constraints in the 991.2 Carrera rear exhaust make incorporating a conventional large muffler into SOUL's secondary path difficult.
Rather than simply reducing pipe diameter, SOUL uses a pair of large resonators.
The resonators are designed to:
Reduce overall sound level
Smooth low-frequency exhaust resonance
Reduce unwanted drone
Work against each other's exhaust pulses
Improve valves-closed refinement
This allows the secondary path to maintain useful exhaust flow while providing substantially greater acoustic control.
FACTORY PSE INTEGRATION:
The SOUL Valved Exhaust System is designed specifically for cars already equipped with Porsche Sport Exhaust.
It reuses Porsche's existing exhaust-valve controls rather than requiring a separate aftermarket valve controller.
The factory PSE programming continues controlling exhaust-valve behavior based on:
Selected driving mode
Engine RPM
Engine operating conditions
As RPM and load increase, Porsche's programming can progressively make greater use of the freer-flowing primary exhaust path.
NO SEPARATE VALVE CONTROLLER REQUIRED:
Because the car already contains Porsche's PSE valve-control infrastructure, there is no need to add:
Aftermarket remotes
Additional valve-control electronics
HomeLink programming
Separate vacuum-control logic
This makes the installation and operation cleaner than converting a non-PSE Carrera to a valved aftermarket exhaust.
NORMAL / EVERYDAY DRIVING:
During relaxed driving, the secondary resonated flow path gives the car a substantially more civilized personality.
SOUL's goal was to preserve:
Highway comfort
Conversation-friendly cabin volume
Reduced drone
Neighborhood-friendly operation
while still providing more exhaust character than the factory system.
The system is not designed to make the car silent with the valves closed; it is designed to provide a clear and useful reduction in presence relative to the valves-open configuration.
SPORT MODE:
The exhaust's more aggressive side becomes especially apparent in Porsche's Sport mode.
The combination of:
Factory PSE programming
Factory Sport-mode engine calibration
3-inch X-pipe
Greater exhaust flow
allows the factory-generated pops and burbles to become substantially more pronounced.
This gives the 991.2 Carrera considerably more of the theatrical character that many owners feel is missing from the original turbocharged exhaust system.
SOUND CHARACTER:
The SOUL Valved Exhaust System is designed to move the 991.2 Carrera away from the muted tone of the factory PSE system.
Expect a sound profile that is:
Richer
Smoother
More robust
Higher pitched under load
More aggressive at higher RPM
More responsive to throttle input
More pronounced during gear changes and downshifts
More expressive in Sport mode
At the same time, the valved secondary path provides the ability to substantially reduce sound during normal cruising.
COMPATIBLE WITH SOUL SPORT CATALYTIC CONVERTERS:
SOUL developed the Valved Exhaust System on a vehicle already equipped with upgraded exhaust components, including Sport Catalytic Converters.
Pairing the two systems provides:
Increased upstream exhaust flow
Reduced catalyst restriction
Increased turbocharger sound
More aggressive exhaust tone
Full 3-inch valves-open rear flow path
Retained factory PSE valve control
Retained quieter valves-closed behavior
The combination creates a more comprehensive performance exhaust while retaining catalytic converters.
COMPATIBLE WITH SOUL SPORT HEADERS:
SOUL's development vehicle also incorporated upgraded headers.
The Valved Exhaust was therefore specifically evaluated in a higher-flowing exhaust configuration rather than only on a completely stock vehicle.
This is important because an exhaust that remains comfortable with factory components can sometimes become excessively loud or develop drone once upstream restrictions are removed.
SOUL designed the secondary resonated path with these more aggressive configurations in mind.
WITH CAT BYPASS PIPES:
The Valved Exhaust can also be combined with catless bypass pipes for a substantially more aggressive configuration.
Removing the factory catalytic converters will significantly increase:
Exhaust volume
Turbocharger sound
Exhaust flow
Pops and burbles
Overall acoustic intensity
The rear exhaust itself remains valved, but the complete system will be substantially louder due to the upstream catalyst removal.
Applicable emissions and ECU considerations should be addressed separately for the catless components.
3-LB WEIGHT REDUCTION:
SOUL publishes the following weights:
Factory Rear Exhaust:
Approximately 23 lbs / 10.4 kg
SOUL Valved Exhaust:
Approximately 20 lbs / 9.1 kg
Weight Savings:
Approximately 3 lbs / 1.3 kg
The weight reduction is modest compared with some muffler-bypass systems, but the SOUL system retains a sophisticated dual-path valved architecture and significant sound-control capability.
.065-INCH T304L STAINLESS CONSTRUCTION:
The system is fabricated from:
.065-inch-wall T304L stainless steel
This construction is intended to provide:
High-temperature durability
Corrosion resistance
Structural strength
Long-term reliability
Consistent exhaust geometry
The finished assemblies are quality checked in-house before shipment.
BOLT-ON INSTALLATION:
SOUL builds and checks each exhaust in a dedicated fixture before shipment to ensure consistent fitment.
The system includes the hardware necessary for installation and is designed as a bolt-on replacement for the factory PSE rear exhaust.
There is no need to modify:
ECU calibration
Catalytic converters
Oxygen sensors
Factory PSE electronics
for installation of the rear exhaust itself.
PERFORMANCE:
The 3-inch primary path provides substantially more available exhaust-flow capacity than the restrictive factory rear muffler architecture.
SOUL describes the system as maximizing flow for performance potential and notes that even the valves-closed secondary path improves flow relative to the factory muffler.
However, SOUL does not currently publish a controlled standalone horsepower or torque figure for this rear exhaust.
DasMotoring therefore does not advertise a numerical power increase for the Valved Exhaust System by itself.
VALVED EXHAUST VS. SOUL NON-VALVED X-PIPE:
SOUL Valved Exhaust System
$3,795.00
3-inch primary X-pipe path
1.75-inch secondary flow path
Dual secondary resonators
Retains factory PSE valve control
Meaningful quieter mode
Approximately 20 lbs
Approximately 3 lbs lighter than stock
Best suited to owners wanting increased sound with everyday flexibility
SOUL Non-Valved X-Pipe
Permanently open 3-inch exhaust path
No valves-closed secondary route
Greater constant exhaust presence
Lighter and simpler construction
Greater weight savings
Better suited to owners prioritizing maximum sound and simplicity
For a street-driven 991.2 Carrera, the Valved Exhaust provides considerably more control over when the additional exhaust volume is present.
EXHAUST TIPS:
The Valved Exhaust System is sold as a single rear-exhaust configuration with no exhaust-tip selection on the SOUL product page.
SOUL offers separate bolt-on exhaust-tip upgrades for the 991.2 Carrera with PSE, allowing the visible tip configuration to be selected independently from the rear exhaust.
This keeps the Valved Exhaust itself to a single SKU.
EMISSIONS:
The SOUL Valved Exhaust System replaces the rear muffler section downstream of the vehicle's catalytic converters and oxygen sensors.
When installed with factory upstream components, it does not remove or modify the catalytic converters.
Emissions compliance can change if the system is combined with separate Sport Catalytic Converters, Cat Bypass Pipes, or other emissions-related components.
Product Description
The SOUL Sport Catalytic Converters are a direct bolt-on performance upgrade for 2017–2019 Porsche 991.2 Carrera models equipped with Porsche Sport Exhaust / PSE, replacing the restrictive factory catalytic converters with high-flow performance catalysts designed to improve power, throttle response, turbocharger sound, and overall exhaust character without sacrificing normal drivability.
SOUL developed the system specifically to increase exhaust flow while maintaining proper catalyst operation and avoiding the check-engine-light concerns commonly associated with catless exhaust components.
Independent Dynojet testing performed by AWE Tuning on an otherwise stock 2017 Carrera 4S showed maximum gains of approximately 14 wheel horsepower and 15 lb-ft of torque, with gains of approximately 12 whp and 13 lb-ft at 4,700 RPM.
The SOUL assemblies also reduce exhaust-system weight by approximately 3.2 lbs / 1.5 kg, weighing approximately 12.8 lbs compared with 16 lbs for the corresponding factory components.

HIGH-FLOW CATALYTIC CONVERTERS:
The factory catalytic converters create a significant restriction immediately downstream of the turbochargers.
SOUL's Sport Catalytic Converters replace those assemblies with freer-flowing performance catalysts designed to improve exhaust flow without converting the vehicle to a completely catless configuration.
This provides a balance between:
Increased exhaust-flow capacity
Improved power potential
Faster engine response
Greater turbocharger sound
Increased exhaust character
Retained catalytic converters
Reduced likelihood of catalyst-efficiency faults compared with catless bypass pipes
For a street-driven 991.2 Carrera, this makes the Sport Catalytic Converters a less extreme alternative to SOUL's Cat Bypass Pipes.
DYNO-TESTED PERFORMANCE:
SOUL approached AWE Tuning for independent third-party dyno testing of its development vehicle.
The test vehicle was a:
2017 Porsche 991.2 Carrera 4S
with:
No other modifications
SOUL recorded approximately:
+12 wheel horsepower
and
+13 lb-ft of torque
at approximately:
4,700 RPM
Maximum measured gains reached approximately:
+14 wheel horsepower
and
+15 lb-ft of torque
These are particularly useful figures because the comparison represents the Sport Catalytic Converters on an otherwise stock vehicle rather than a combination of exhaust, intake, and ECU modifications.
MORE POTENTIAL WITH ECU TUNING:
The published dyno testing was performed without other vehicle modifications.
SOUL notes that greater gains can be expected when the freer-flowing catalytic converters are paired with appropriate ECU calibration.
A tuned turbocharged engine can request increased airflow and boost, making reduced post-turbo exhaust restriction increasingly valuable.
Actual gains will depend on:
Carrera model
ECU calibration
Fuel quality
Boost targets
Intake modifications
Additional exhaust components
Ambient conditions
Dyno type and testing procedure
The published 14-whp / 15-lb-ft figures should therefore be treated as SOUL's tested result rather than a guaranteed increase on every vehicle.
THROTTLE RESPONSE:
Reducing exhaust restriction immediately downstream of the turbochargers can improve the engine's response to throttle input.
SOUL specifically identifies improved:
Throttle response
Power
Exhaust flow
as benefits of the Sport Catalytic Converters.
The difference becomes even more relevant when additional performance modifications increase the engine's airflow requirements.
INCREASED TURBO SOUND:
One of the most noticeable changes from the Sport Catalytic Converters is increased turbocharger sound.
The freer-flowing catalyst assemblies allow more:
Turbo spool
Turbo whistle
Compressor / turbine character
Exhaust sound
to reach the driver.
The result is a more obvious turbocharged character without requiring a complete replacement exhaust system.
EXHAUST SOUND:
Expect an increase in:
Overall exhaust volume
Turbocharger whistle
Turbo spool sound
Low- and midrange exhaust presence
Full-throttle exhaust character
Pops and burbles where produced by the factory calibration
Because the factory PSE system remains downstream, the vehicle retains the ability to alter its exhaust behavior through Porsche's original Sport Exhaust controls.
RETAINS FACTORY PSE:
The Sport Catalytic Converters are specifically designed for 991.2 Carrera models equipped with Porsche Sport Exhaust.
The factory PSE system downstream remains installed and functional.
Installing the Sport Catalytic Converters does not remove:
Factory PSE mufflers
Factory exhaust valves
PSE button functionality
Porsche's original exhaust-control strategy
The result is increased sound and flow while retaining the factory driver's ability to change exhaust behavior.
PSE ON:
With the Porsche Sport Exhaust system in its more aggressive operating mode, the reduced upstream restriction allows significantly more:
Exhaust character
Turbo sound
Engine presence
to reach the driver.
This is where the Sport Catalytic Converters provide their most noticeable acoustic effect.
PSE OFF:
With PSE in its quieter setting, the factory downstream exhaust continues providing sound attenuation.
This allows the car to remain considerably more subdued than a permanently loud or fully catless exhaust configuration.
For street use, this gives the Sport Catalytic Converters a useful dual-purpose character.
NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT:
SOUL specifically developed its Sport Catalytic Converters with the goal of increasing flow without triggering a check engine light.
SOUL's current product documentation identifies:
Added performance without a check engine light
as one of the primary advantages of the system.
This distinguishes the Sport Catalytic Converters from catless bypass pipes, which may require ECU calibration to address catalyst-monitoring faults.
As with any emissions-related aftermarket component, vehicle condition, sensor condition, calibration, and other modifications can affect diagnostic behavior.
NO ECU TUNE REQUIRED:
The Sport Catalytic Converters are designed as a bolt-on hardware upgrade.
An ECU tune is not required simply to install and operate the system.
This allows owners to install the catalysts on an otherwise stock car and realize measurable performance improvements.
An appropriate tune can be added later to take further advantage of the increased exhaust-flow capacity.
3.2-LB WEIGHT REDUCTION:
SOUL publishes the following component weights:
Factory Components:
Approximately 16 lbs
SOUL Sport Catalytic Converters:
Approximately 12.8 lbs
Weight Savings:
Approximately 3.2 lbs / 1.5 kg
While this is not a dramatic vehicle-weight reduction by itself, it provides an additional benefit alongside the improvements in exhaust flow and power.
RETAINS FACTORY TURBO HEAT SHIELDS:
SOUL specifically designed the Sport Catalytic Converters to retain Porsche's original turbocharger heat shields.
This maintains the factory heat-management strategy around the turbochargers and surrounding engine-bay components.
This is an important consideration because post-turbo exhaust components operate at extremely high temperatures.
.065-INCH T304L STAINLESS CONSTRUCTION:
Each system is manufactured in-house from:
Mandrel-bent .065-inch-wall T304L stainless steel
This construction provides a combination of:
Heat resistance
Corrosion resistance
Structural strength
Consistent exhaust geometry
Long-term durability
BACK-PURGED TIG WELDING:
SOUL uses back-purged TIG welding during fabrication.
Back purging protects the inside of the stainless-steel tubing during welding, helping maintain proper weld penetration and reducing oxidation inside the exhaust path.
This is particularly valuable for components exposed to high exhaust-gas temperatures immediately downstream of the turbochargers.
DIRECT BOLT-ON INSTALLATION:
The Sport Catalytic Converters are designed to directly replace the original Porsche catalytic-converter assemblies.
SOUL includes:
Installation hardware
Detailed installation instructions
Rear bumper removal is not necessary to complete the installation, although additional access can be gained by removing it.
SOUL describes the job as straightforward enough for experienced DIY enthusiasts.
FACTORY EXHAUST COMPATIBILITY:
The Sport Catalytic Converters can be installed while retaining the remainder of the factory Porsche Sport Exhaust.
This provides a simple first-stage upgrade with:
Factory PSE retained
Factory mufflers retained
Factory exhaust valves retained
Factory heat shields retained
Increased turbo sound
Increased exhaust sound
Measurable power improvement
WITH SOUL VALVED EXHAUST:
Pairing the Sport Catalytic Converters with the SOUL Valved Exhaust System further reduces downstream exhaust restriction and increases overall exhaust sound.
This combination retains driver-controlled valve operation while producing a substantially more aggressive exhaust character than the factory system.
WITH SOUL X-PIPE EXHAUST:
SOUL's X-Pipe Exhaust can also be combined with the Sport Catalytic Converters for a more aggressive downstream configuration.
The high-flow catalysts address restriction closer to the turbochargers while the X-pipe changes downstream exhaust flow and sound.
WITH SOUL SPORT HEADERS:
SOUL Sport Headers can further address restriction upstream of the turbochargers.
Combining:
Sport Headers + Sport Catalytic Converters + PSE rear exhaust
creates a more comprehensive turbo-back performance configuration while retaining catalytic converters and the factory PSE system downstream.
SPORT CATALYTIC CONVERTERS VS. CAT BYPASS PIPES:
Sport Catalytic Converters
$3,715.00
Retain catalytic converters
Manufacturer-developed for no catalyst-related CEL
